Facet-dependent photocatalysts design towards efficient water treatment

Proposed project is focused on increasing activity of the photocatalysts utilized in the water treatment technology. A series of photocatalysts exposed with specific crystal facets will be prepared and systematically modified, in order to achieve possibly high photocatalytic activity. It is expected that combination of a specific crystal facet exposed, introduced dopants and surface co-catalysts should remarkable increase photocatalyst quantum efficiency. Furthermore, obtained materials will be tested towards their ability to generate different reactive oxygen species which should initiate degradation process. Finally, characterized materials will be tested in the removal of selected different pollutants from aqueous phase (pharmaceuticals, pesticides, heavy metals and PAHs). Obtained results should provide key information about design of the highly active, multi-component photocatalytic systems, as well as they will act as a base for further studies and/or applications made by the PG's photocatalysis team.
