Abstract
The paper describes new approach to supply chain management in the North American automotive industry, in part influenced by the Japanese model. To survive and prosper all automotive suppliers must face major challenges in supporting their customers including delivering innovative ideas, technology and quality with increasing speed, participating in every aspect of product development and producing entire systems. The authors describe examples of integration and collaboration efforts, cultural and logistical barriers to successful implementation of these efforts and a vision of the future.
