Determination of Heavy Metals Concentration in Water and Soil at Various Locations in Lahore and their Harmful Impacts on Human and Plants life
PublicationHeavy metals poisoning of soil and water has resulted from industrial expansion in Lahore, Pakistan, creating a significant environmental hazard. As a result, monitoring the contamination of soil and water around industrial sites is critical. The fact that higher concentrations of heavy metals have a negative influence on both plants and human life and this cannot be ignored. Higher heavy metal concentrations have a direct impact...

Reply to Comment on ‘Nanodiamond incorporated human liver mimicking phantoms: prospective calibration medium of magnetic resonance imaging’
PublicationDependence of the spin–lattice (T1) relaxation times on the nanodiamond concentration in human liver phantoms is discussed. Factors affecting stability and and reproducibility of these phantoms are presented. The need for comparative measurements on multiple MRI scanners for better understanding of potential variations in the obtained imaging data is emphasised.

CNN Architectures for Human Pose Estimation from a Very Low Resolution Depth Image
PublicationThe paper is dedicated to proposing and evaluating a number of convolutional neural network architectures for calculating a multiple regression on 3D coordinates of human body joints tracked in a single low resolution depth image. The main challenge was to obtain a high precision in case of a noisy and coarse scan of the body, as observed by a depth sensor from a large distance. The regression network was expected to reason about...

The effect of UV-C irradiation on lipids and selected biologically active compounds in human milk
PublicationThe effect of UV-C irradiation of human milk on lipid oxidation, content of antioxidants (vitamin C and catalase, CAT) and bactericidal compounds (lysozyme), as well as the total antioxidant capacity (TAC), of the breast milk was investigated. In parallel, the extent of inactivation of some bacteria was also determined. UV-C at doses from 85 to 740 J L−1 caused total inactivation of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, but...

Alphitobius diaperinus larvae (lesser mealworm) as human food – An approval of the European Commission – A critical review
PublicationDue to the increasing threat of climate change and the need for sustainable food sources, human consumption of edible insects or entomophagy has gained considerable attention globally. The larvae of Alphitobius diaperinus Panzer (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae), also known as the lesser mealworm, have been identified as a promising candidate for mass-rearing as a food source based the on evaluation on several aspects such as the production...
