Series-Slot-Fed Circularly Polarized Multiple-Input-Multiple-Output Antenna Array Enabling Circular Polarization Diversity for 5G 28-GHz Indoor Applications
PublicationIn this paper, a four-element circularly polarized series-slot-fed multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) antenna array with circular polarization diversity is presented. The proposed design utilizes a combination of 45-degree inclined slots and a straight microstrip line feeding technique. The two antennas are designed to operate with the opposite sense of circular polarization (CP). CP is achieved by placing a patch of just about...

Compact Dual-Polarized Corrugated Horn Antenna for Satellite Communications
PublicationIn this paper, a structure and design procedure of a novel compact dual-polarized corrugated horn antenna with high gain and a stable phase center for satellite communication is presented. The antenna incorporates an Ortho-Mode Transducer (OMT), a mode converter, and a corrugated structure. The compact OMT section is designed to be fed by standard WR-75 waveguides. The proposed compact design utilizes only ten corrugated slots...

An Optimized Ka-Band Low Profile Dual-Polarized Transmitarray Antenna With 2D Beam Switching
PublicationThis article presents an optimized dual-polarized transmitarray antenna (TA) designed for MIMO applications at the Ka-band, capable of switching beams in two directions. The antenna aperture uses a small unit cell with three layers of Taconic RF-35 dielectric substrates, which can be easily fabricated using PCB technology. The unit cell achieved a 360-degree phase shift and a transmission magnitude exceeding –0.4 dB at 28 GHz....

A Dual-Polarized 39 GHz 4x4 Microstrip Antenna Array for 5G MU-MIMO Airflight Cabin Connectivity
PublicationThis paper presents the design, fabrication, and experimental validation of a 39 GHz dual-polarized 4x4 microstrip antenna array. The array consists of 16 slot coupled circular microstrip patches, fed through SMPS connectors. The procedure requiring a reduced number of cables for measurement of the uniformly excited antenna array is also presented. The array exhibits 18 dBi peak gain and 2.9 GHz reflection bandwidth and is intended...

Simple Superstrate Antenna for Connectivity Improvement in Precision Farming Applications
PublicationIn this paper, a concept of a simple circularly polarized antenna with partially reflecting surface (PRS) has been adopted for precision farming applications. The investigation contains an analysis of the dependence of the antenna performance on the elements number in the PRS structure in X- and Ka-band frequencies. Especially meaningful parameters from point-to-point connectivity perspective are...

Rapid Re-Design and Bandwidth/Size Trade-Offs for Compact Wideband Circular Polarization Antennas Using Inverse Surrogates and Fast EM-Based Parameter Tuning
PublicationDesign of compact wideband circularly polarized (CP) antennas is challenging due to the necessity of simultaneous handling of several characteristics (reflection, axial ratio, gain) while maintaining a small size of the structure. Antenna re-design for various operating bands is clearly more difficult yet practically important because intentional reduction of the bandwidth (e.g., by moving the lower edge of the operating band up...

Improved-Efficacy EM-Based Antenna Miniaturization by Multi-Fidelity Simulations and Objective Function Adaptation
PublicationThe growing demands for integration of surface mount design (SMD) antennas into miniatur-ized electronic devices have been continuously imposing limitations on the structure dimen-sions. Examples include embedded antennas in applications such as on-board devices, picosatel-lites, 5G communications, or implantable and wearable devices. The demands for size reduction while ensuring a satisfactory level of the electrical and field...

60 GHz Microstrip Van Atta Arrays for Millimeter Wave Identification and Localization
PublicationIn this paper performance comparison of co-polarized and cross-polarized microstrip Van Atta arrays working in the 60 GHz frequency range is presented. They can be treated as simple chipless RFID tags with frequency response based identification. Tags with three different nominal resonance frequencies of 57, 62 and 67 GHz are designed by scaling optimized base model. Designed 62 GHz co-polarized and cross-polarized arrays with...

Measurement and Analysis of the Radio Wave Polarisation in Off-Body Communications in Indoor Environment
PublicationThe paper describes an analysis of the radio wave polarisation in off-body communications in indoor environment. The measurement stand for polarisation measurements has been shortly described. Five investigated scenarios with different body postures and different antenna placements have been characterize. The vertical and horizontal components of received radio signal have been analysed. The measure used in analysis is a ratio...

Application of gpr method in diagnostics of reinforced concrete structures
PublicationThis paper presents an application of the ground penetration method (GPR) for diagnostics of reinforced concrete structures. In situ measurements were conducted for three civil engineering structures: the ground floor structure, the abutment of the railway viaduct and the concrete well. The dual polarized ground penetrating radar with the antenna operating at a center frequency of 2 GHz was used for GPR surveys. Three different...

Dual-Polarized Wideband Bandpass Metasurface-Based Filter
PublicationThis paper presents a novel metasurface-based bandpass filter. The structure is realized by simply patterning a double-sided AD250 substrate, and does not require any vias or insertion of lumped elements. The top layer is an annular- aperture-array with multiple inner conductors, whereas the bottom layer is a first-order Hilbert-curve array. FEM-based simulation results of the filter are obtained using HFSS. The experimental validation...

Investigation of RTS Noise in Reverse Polarized Silicon Carbide Schottky Diodes
PublicationOne of the method of electronic device quality and reliability evaluation is observation of its inherent noise. The RTS phenomena usually indicates the presence of large defects in the structure of the material of the device, therefore it can be treated as an indicator of technology quality. In the paper authors present results of RTS investigations in reverse polarized Silicon Carbide Schottky diodes. Devices being studied are...

Extraction of antenna pattern from near field antenna measurements distorted by undesired emission
PublicationIn this paper authors present experimental correction of antenna pattern obtained from near field measurements when they are distorted by determined electromagnetic emission. Such situation may be met e.g. when feeding or supply subsystem interacts with antenna radiation pattern due to self-emission. Presented results of experiments show effectiveness of extraction of antenna pattern utilizing near field antenna measurements.
