Semantic technologies based method of collection, processing and sharing information along food chain
PublicationIn the paper the method of collecting, processing and sharing information along food chain is presented. Innovative features of that method result from advantages of data engineering based on semantic technologies. The source to build ontology are standards and regulations related to food production, and data collected in databases owned by food chain participants. It allows food chain information resources can be represented in...

Evaluation of semantic and social technologies for digital libraries

Application of Semantic Knowledge Management System in Selected Areas of Polish Public Administration
PublicationThis paper describes an application of semantic technologies and knowledge management systems in chosen areas of Polish public administration. Short analyses of crisis management and EU policy coordination processes are presented. An architecture of a knowledge management system with interfaces using controlled natural language is proposed. A lot of examples are shown that prove a usefulness of semantic knowledge management and...

Semantic OLAP with FluentEditor and Ontorion Semantic Excel Toolchain
PublicationSemantic technologies appear as a step on the way to creating systems capable of representing the physical world as real time computational processes. In this context, the paper presents a toolchain for an ontology based knowledge management system. It consists of the ontology editor, FluentEditor and the distributed knowledge representation system, Ontorion. FluentEditor is a comprehensive tool for editing and manipulating complex...

Society 4.0: Issues, Challenges, Approaches, and Enabling Technologies
PublicationThis guest edition of Cybernetics and Systems is a broadening continuation of our last year edition titled “Intelligence Augmentation and Amplification: Approaches, Tools, and Case Studies”. This time we cover research perspective extending towards what is known as Society 4.0. Bob de Vit brought the concept of Society 4.0 to life in his book “Society 4.0 – resolving eight key issues to build a citizens society”. From the Systems...

Bridging challenges of clinical decision support systems with a semantic approach. A case study on breast cancer
PublicationThe integration of Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSS) in nowadays clinical environments has not been fully achieved yet. Although numerous approaches and technologies have been proposed since 1960, there are still open gaps that need to be bridged. In this work we present advances from the established state of the art, overcoming some of the most notorious reported difficulties in: (i) automating CDSS, (ii) clinical workflow...

Proposition of the methodology for Data Acquisition, Analysis and Visualization in support of Industry 4.0
PublicationIndustry 4.0 offers a comprehensive, interlinked, and holistic approach to manufacturing. It connects physical with digital and allows for better collaboration and access across departments, partners, vendors, product, and people. Consequently, it involves complex designing of highly specialized state of the art technologies. Thus, companies face formidable challenges in the adoption of these new technologies....

Distributed Architectures for Intensive Urban Computing: A Case Study on Smart Lighting for Sustainable Cities
PublicationNew information and communication technologies have contributed to the development of the smart city concept. On a physical level, this paradigm is characterised by deploying a substantial number of different devices that can sense their surroundings and generate a large amount of data. The most typical case is image and video acquisition sensors. Recently, these types of sensors are found in abundance in urban spaces and are responsible...

Asking Data in a Controlled Way with Ask Data Anything NQL
PublicationWhile to collect data, it is necessary to store it, to understand its structure it is necessary to do data-mining. Business Intelligence (BI) enables us to make intelligent, data-driven decisions by the mean of a set of tools that allows the creation of a potentially unlimited number of machine-generated, data-driven reports, which are calculated by a machine as a response to queries specified by humans. Natural Query Languages...

Ontology of the Design Pattern Language for Smart Cities Systems
PublicationThe paper presents the definition of the design pattern language of Smart Cities in the form of an ontology. Since the implementation of a Smart City system is difficult, expensive and closely linked with the problems concerning a given city, the knowledge acquired during a single implementation is extremely valuable. The language we defined supports the management of such knowledge as it allows for the expression of a solution...

Development and Research of the Text Messages Semantic Clustering Methodology
PublicationThe methodology of semantic clustering analysis of customer’s text-opinions collection is developed. The author's version of the mathematical models of formalization and practical realization of short textual messages semantic clustering procedure is proposed, based on the customer’s text-opinions collection Latent Semantic Analysis knowledge extracting method. An algorithm for semantic clustering of the text-opinions is developed,...

Information retrieval with semantic memory model
PublicationPsycholinguistic theories of semantic memory form the basis of understanding of natural language concepts. These theories are used here as an inspiration for implementing a computational model of semantic memory in the form of semantic network. Combining this network with a vector-based object-relation-feature value representation of concepts that includes also weights for confidence and support, allows for recognition of concepts...

The algorithm of building the hierarchical contextual framework of textual corpora
PublicationThis paper presents an approach for Modeling the Latent Semantic Relations. The approach is based on advantages of two computational approaches: Latent Semantic Analysis and Latent Dirichlet Allocation. The scientific question about the possibility of reducing the influence of these Methods limitation on the Quality of the Latent Semantic Relations Analysis Results is raised. The case study for building the Two-level Hierarchical Contextual...

Web component for automatic extraction of ontological information from informal description of web services
PublicationThis article treats about usage possibilities of Web Services and cooperation in development that leads to constant improvement of these components. It describes the semantic methods which can beused to create the description that is comprehensible for computers. It also presents the two models supporting the automatic generation of the semantic description based on informal description. Thepaper draws upon the comparison of two...
