Received M.Sc., Eng. in Electronics in 1995 from Gdansk University of Technology, Ph.D. in Medical Electronics in 2003 and habilitation in Biocybernetics and Biomedical Engineering in 2017.

He was an investigator in about 13 projects receiving a number of awards, including four best papers, practical innovations (7 medals and awards) and also the Andronicos G. Kantsios Award and Siemens Award. Main research activities: the issues of active dynamic thermography (ADT), use of thermography in medical diagnostics - in cardiosurgery, burns diagnostics, postoperative wound healing.

The scientific goal of the work is the development of algorithms and procedures for thermal diagnosis on the non-contact measurements of thermal infrared in order to implement them to an objective, quantitative, non destructive and non stress assessment of tissue in selected applications of medical diagnostics. The developed method was verified in the following applications medical diagnosis: determination of the depth of burns, for automatic determination of areas requiring surgical treatment and identifying areas suitable for conservative treatment; for evaluation of the cardiac coronary artery bypass by conventional methods as well as off pump coronary artery bypass grafting and other open-heart surgery; to assess the status and progress of healing of surgical wounds including after cardiac interventions. The result of work is the development, optimization and implementation of prototype equipment and software suitable for the implementation of the production and application in the clinical setting.

The outcome of the research is to develop a methodology completely non-invasive, quantitative thermal diagnosis and appropriate equipment and software. The method was verified clinically in Gdansk Medical University, the clinics: Plastic Surgery, Oncological Surgery, Cardiac Surgery and Vascular surgery Centre and the West Pomeranian Heavy Degree Burns and Plastic Surgery in Gryfice.

Ongoing work on the development of methods of thermal imaging infrared using an external stimulation in medical diagnostics, have been inspired by earlier experience with the use of thermography in medicine, which was a summary of my doctoral dissertation "Modelling of the thermal properties of living tissues for dynamic thermography." Already these early works pointed to the great potential methods of infrared imaging, especially the unique works using an external excitation of thermal tissue.

The research also includes problems related to image processing and AAL - Ambient Assisted Living. Author of more than 140 papers (WoS), and several patent applications (Hirsh index = 14: https://scholar.google.pl/; ORCiD). For many years he has been involved in activities related to the popularization of science among people from outside the university.
