  • A structure and design of a novel compact UWB MIMO antenna
    Publication

In the paper, a concept and design procedure of a novel compact MIMO slot antenna is presented. In order to achieve a better filling of available space, individual antennas are constrained to a triangular shape and optimized for a reduced size. The MIMO structure is then assembled using the two of previously designed antennas in orthogonal arrangement. Surrogate-assisted numerical optimization involving variable-fidelity electromagnetic...

  • A structure and simulation-driven design of compact CPW-fed UWB antenna

In this letter, a structure of a miniaturized ultra-wideband CPW-fed antenna and its design proce-dure are presented. The antenna is a modified version of the design previously proposed in the literature, with additional degrees of freedom introduced in order to improve the structure flexibility. The small size is achieved by executing a rigorous optimization procedure that consists of two stages: (i) smart random search carried...

  • Accurate simulation-driven modeling and design optimization of compact microwave structures
    Publication

Cost efficient design optimization of microwave structures requires availability of fast yet reliable replacement models so that multiple evaluations of the structure at hand can be executed in reasonable timeframe. Direct utilization of full-wave electromagnetic (EM) simulations is often prohibitive. On the other hand, accurate data-driven modeling normally requires a very large number of training points and it is virtually infeasible...

  • Cost-efficient design optimization of compact patch antennas with improved bandwidth

In this letter, a surrogate-assisted optimization procedure for fast design of compact patch antennas with enhanced bandwidth is presented. The procedure aims at addressing a fundamental challenge of the design of antenna structures with complex topologies, which is simultaneous adjustment of numerous geometry parameters. The latter is necessary in order to find a truly optimum design and cannot be executed-at the level of high-fidelity...

  • Cost-efficient multi-objective design optimization of antennas in highly-dimensional parameter spaces
    Publication

Multi-objective optimization of antenna structures in highly-dimensional parameter spaces is investigated. For expedited design, variable-fidelity EM simulations and domain patching algorithm are utilized. The results obtained for a monopole antenna with 13 geometry parameters are compared with surrogate-assisted optimization involving response surface approximation modeling.

  • Cost-efficient simulation-driven design of compact impedance matching transformers
    Publication

In this paper, an algorithmic framework for cost-efficient design optimization of miniaturized impedance matching transformers has been presented. Our approach exploits a bottom-up design that involves translating the overall design specifications for the circuit at hand to its elementary building blocks (here, compact microstrip resonant cells, CMRCs), as well as fast surrogate-assisted optimization of the cells followed by simulation-based...

  • Expedited two-objective dimension scaling of compact microwave passives using surrogate models
    Publication

    - Year 2016

Geometry scaling of compact microwave structures is a challenging problem because of complex relationships between the physical dimensions and electrical characteristics, mostly caused by considerable cross-couplings in densely arranged layouts. Here, a procedure for expedited dimension scaling of compact microwave couplers with respect to two independent criteria has been presented. Our approach involves inverse surrogate models...

  • Fast EM-driven optimization using variable-fidelity EM models and adjoint sensitivities

A robust and computationally efficient technique for microwave design optimization is presented. Our approach exploits variable-fidelity electromagnetic (EM) simulation models and adjoint sensitivities. The low-fidelity EM model correction is realized by means of space mapping (SM). In the optimization process, the SM parameters are optimized together with the design itself, which allows us to keep the number...

  • Fast geometry scaling of UWB band-notch antennas
    Publication

Implementation of band-notch capability plays an important role in the design of ultra-wideband (UWB) antennas. At the same time, appropriate sizing of antenna geometry parameters in order to precisely allocate the notch at the required frequency as well as to ensure sufficient reflection level is quite challenging and has to be based—for reliability reasons—on full-wave electromagnetic (EM) simulations of the structure. In this...

  • Fast simulation-driven design optimization of UWB band-notch antennas

In this letter, a simple yet reliable and automated methodology for rapid design optimization of ultra-wideband (UWB) band-notch antennas is presented. Our approach is a two-stage procedure with the first stage focused on the design of the antenna itself, and the secondstage aiming at identification of the appropriate dimensions of the resonator with the purpose of allocating the band-notch in the desired frequency range. For the...
