  • A concept of software extension of 3D low-PRF radar systems to 4D semi-medium-PRF radar systems
    Publication

We present a concept of software modification of three-dimensional (3D) radar systems, designed to work in the low pulse repetition frequency mode, that equips them with the ability to estimate the radial velocity and to properly measure the range of targets that are detected outside the radar’s instrumented range. Despite the fact that the proposed modifications are designed so as to require only minor changes in software, they...

  • Adaptation of radar software to work with ambiguous distance measurement
    Publication

A software extension for radar stations designed to work in the low-PRF mode that allows them to correctly measure range to targets outside of their instrumented range, is proposed. The solution does not require substantial modifications of the radar software. Additionally, we describe tools that allow one to simulate the output of a low-PRF radar observing targets that are outside its instrumented range. The proposed approach...

  • Capon-like DoA estimator for rotating arrays
    Publication

    - Year 2019

We propose a nonparametric superresolution DoA estimator that is suitable for use with rotating arrays. The proposed method can be regarded as an extension of the Capon approach. We investigate its properties using computer simulations and present results obtained by processing of real world data.

  • A new approach to active noise and vibration control - [Part I: the known frequency case]
    Publication

This paper presents a new approach to rejection of complex-valued sinusoidal disturbances acting at the output of a discrete-time stable linear plant with unknown dynamics. It is assumed that the frequency of the sinusoidal disturbance is known, and that the output signal is contaminated with wideband measurement noise. The disturbance rejection control rule is first derived and analyzed for a nominal plant model, different from...

  • A new approach to active noise and vibration control - [Part II: unknown frequency case]
    Publication

This paper presents a new approach to rejection of complex-valued sinusoidal disturbances acting at the output of a discrete-time stable linear plant with unknown and possibly timevarying dynamics. It is assumed that both the instantaneous frequency of the sinusoidal disturbance and its amplitude may be slowly varying with time and that the output signal is contaminated with wideband measurement noise. It is not assumed that a...

  • A Novel Approach to the Assessment of Cough Incidence
    Publication

In this paper we consider the problem of identication of cough events in patients suffering from chronic respiratory diseases. The information about frequency of cough events is necessary to medical treatment. The proposed approach is based on bidirectional processing of a measured vibration signal - cough events are localized by combining the results of forward-time and backward-time analysis. The signal is at rst transformed...

  • Elimination of Impulsive Disturbances From Archive Audio Signals Using Bidirectional Processing

In this application-oriented paper we consider the problem of elimination of impulsive disturbances, such as clicks, pops and record scratches, from archive audio recordings. The proposed approach is based on bidirectional processing—noise pulses are localized by combining the results of forward-time and backward-time signal analysis. Based on the results of specially designed empirical tests (rather than on the results of theoretical analysis),...

    - Year 2004

  • Akaike's final prediction error criterion revisited
    Publication

When local identification of a nonstationary ARX system is carried out, two important decisions must be taken. First, one should decide upon the number of estimated parameters, i.e., on the model order. Second, one should choose the appropriate estimation bandwidth, related to the (effective) number of input-output data samples that will be used for identification/ tracking purposes. Failure to make the right decisions results...

  • Azimuth estimator for a rotating array radar with wide beam
    Publication

    - Year 2017

The problem of estimating azimuth in rotating array radar with a beam, wide in the azimuth plane, is considered. Under such setup the echo signal usually has a very low signal to noise ratio, but the number of observations is large, because of long dwell times. The proposed solution is based on the maximum likelihood approach, but it employs simplifications which facilitate its implementation in real time systems. Results, obtained...

  • Detection of impulsive disturbances in archive audio signals
    Publication

In this paper the problem of detection of impulsive disturbances in archive audio signals is considered. It is shown that semi-causal/noncausal solutions based on joint evaluation of signal prediction errors and leave-one-out signal interpolation errors, allow one to noticeably improve detection results compared to the prediction-only based solutions. The proposed approaches are evaluated on a set of clean audio signals contaminated...

  • An improved frequency estimator for an adaptive active noise control scheme
    Publication

An improved frequency tracker is proposed for the recently introduced self optimizing narrowband interference canceller (SONIC). The scheme is designed for disturbances with quasi-linear frequency modulation and, under second-order Gaussian random-walk assumption, can be shown to be statistically efficient. One real-world experiment and several simulations show that a considerable improvement in disturbance rejection may be achieved...

  • Application of TMS320c67xx signal processors for SONIC-self-optimizing narrowband interference canceler
    Publication

    - Year 2010

The paper presents a laboratory system for testing active control algorithms of acoustics noise in ducts. An applied algorithm - self-optimizing narrowband interference canceller (SONIC), allows one to remove narrowband disturbances of constant or slowly time-varying frequencies. Example experimental results of using the laboratory system for supression of sinusoidal disturbance are described. An electronic part of the system was...

  • Easy recipes for cooperative smoothing
    Publication

    - AUTOMATICA - Year 2010

In this paper we suggest how several competing signal smoothers, differing in design parameters, or even in design principles, can be combined together to yield a better and more reliable smoothing algorithm. The proposed heuristic, but statistically well motivated, fusion mechanism allows one to combine practically all kinds of smoothers, from simple local averaging or order statistic filters, to parametric smoothers designed...

  • Central heating temperature control algorithm for systems with condensing boilers
    Publication

    - Year 2016

The problem of control of a central heating system in a small residence is considered. It is assumed that the system is based on a condensing boiler. Since the boiler efficiency depends on a returning water temperature, the proposed control goal is to provide proper air temperature in the residence as well as the lowest possible water temperature. The proposed algorithm is applied to two buildings. Both of them have the same heating...

    Publication

This paper presents a new approach to elimination of impulsivedisturbances from archive speech signals. The proposedsparse autoregressive (SAR) signal representation is given ina factorized form - the model is a cascade of the so-called formantfilter and pitch filter. Such a technique has been widelyused in code-excited linear prediction (CELP) systems, as itguarantees model stability. After detection of noise pulses usinglinear...
