5G Technologies in Intelligent Transport Systems - Architectures, Virtualization and Network Slicing
PublicationIn the paper, 5G communication technologies implemented for Intelligent Transport Systems are discussed. Firstly, the essence of the 5G system concept is presented, and the problem of network functions virtualization (NFV) is analyzed. Moreover, the principle of virtualization is explained. Secondly, the analysis of network slicing is performed, from the point of view of transport systems implementation in the...

Possible directions for development of C-ITS services in cities on the example of the TRISTAR System
PublicationDuring the previous EU financial perspective (2007 - 2013), we observed an intensification of the evelopment of transport management systems using ITS services in Polish cities. One of the biggest territorially and functionally system is Tri-city TRISTAR system, the implementation of which was completed in 2015. The concept of the TRISTAR system and its architecture was developed in the years 2002-2007. Currently, we can observe...

Shipping Safety Management on Polish Inland Waterways
PublicationOver the past years, the role of inland waterway transport has increased compared to other modes of transport. The increasing intensity of the inland vessel traffic significantly affects the safety of navigation. The article analyses the main causes of accidents and incidents that occurred on the Odra Waterway and Lower Vistula. The authors have classified those accidents and suggested possible directions for the development of...

State of Development of Intelligent Transport Systems Services on National Roads in Poland
PublicationIn recent years we can see intensifying implementation of Intelligent Transport System (ITS) measures in Polish cities and on national roads. The architecture of the National Traffic Management System (KSZR) will enable the implementation of a uniform, integrated and intelligent ICT system to launch ITS systems that are the most important for drivers and the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA). This paper...

Design of radio communication systems for unmanned transport applications
PublicationIn the paper the principle of OFDMA-based radio communication systems design for unmanned transport applications is presented. The concept of system radio interface is analysed and its basic parameters proposal are considered. In the last part of the paper some air interface characteristics useful for optimization of throughput and system capacity are considered.

The structure of the data flow in integrated urban traffic management systems – the case of TRISTAR system
PublicationThe purpose of the article is to offer some insight into the data flow architecture in the Tri-City’s integrated traffic management system called TRISTAR. To that end selected elements of TRISTAR are identified and described as well as the structure for collecting and exchanging data within different sub-systems. Finally, the article highlights how the TRISTAR system can be extended by adding new elements and modules.

Road safety information system in Poland - supporting tools and their development
PublicationAs a signatory to the UN Declaration on road safety and member of the EU, Poland has an obligation to comply with relevant EU policies and in particular to halve the overall number of road deaths by 2020. To monitor the progress in reaching the targets, the road safety situation must be evaluated and its processes understood. For this purpose regional and national road safety observatories were launched in Poland, which triggered...

Cognitive network model dedicated to transport system telematics
PublicationThe paper defines the concept of cognitive radio, in the context of transport systems, with particular emphasis on modern ecological concept of “green cognitive radio”. In addition, in the paper a modified cognitive network model dedicated to transport system telematics is proposed and presented. Algorithms to support the functioning of the cognitive radio are discussed. Sensors necessary to use the network to support cognitive...

Efficiency of the Use of LTE System Radio Resources in Highway Transport Enironment
PublicationThe paper describes the problem of analysis of throughput-coverage characteristics of the LTE system. Simulation results of the efficiency of the use of LTE radio resources are presented. Simulation studies on the basis of original model of the LTE network simulator were carried out. In addition, the evaluation of throughput for a single connection, and available capacity were evaluated in the context of the use of the same...

Study of data scheduling methods in the WiMAX Mobile metropolitan area networks
PublicationThe paper discusses basic assumptions of the WiMAX Mobile system. It also presents and analyses the results of simulation tests run for selected data scheduling methods and subcarrier allocation. Based on the test results, the authors have prepared a comparative analysis of two popular data scheduling methods, i.e. WRR and PF, and their own method CDFQ which uses information about the current channel situation for the queuing processes...

Research on Quality Requirements of Data Transmission Services in RSMAD
PublicationThe paper presents a results and analysis of research of the quality of service requirements (defined by the QoS attributes) for imaging data transmission services using Radio System for Monitoring and Acquisition of Data from Traffic Enforcement Cameras (in short RSMAD). The paper also presents and discusses results of test on the impact of the size of photos from traffic enforcement cameras on the average transmission time. These...
