Determination of volatile organic compounds using solventless sample preparation techniques and gas chromatography
Abstract
In this paper the latest advances in the determination of volatile organic compounds using solvent-free extraction techniques in the sample preparation step are presented. A paper is focus mainly on one of the most popular sample preparation technique: solid-phase microextraction technique (SPME) combined with different detection systems and its applications to sampling of VOCs from the samples with different matrices. This paper includes the latest developments in the field of SPME fibers having high affinity for the analytes from the group of VOCs, new approaches to SPME will be described: their merits and limitations will be discussed, as well as the opportunities for applying these devices in the extraction of a broad spectrum of analytes from samples with a complex matrix composition. It presents also own research conducted under a grant of The National Science Centre. Presented results show that extraction with M-SPME technique is several times more efficient if compare extraction with commercially available fibre coatings.
