Abstract
When employees have a sense of work well-being and safety, so shall the employer organization thrive. In the digitized work content, also called the Forth Industrial Revolution or Industry 4.0, employer organizations prioritize faster or efficient production with ever more precise decision-making, entirely and workflow for task accomplishment of which employees and employer organizations are learning “on-the-go” how to manage the occupational health and safety of the workers. Unfortunately, technological advances of Industry 4.0 have outpaced occupational health and safety standards and regulations of the pre-digital work era, and the gap continues to grow as newer work technologies emerge. This chapter considers occupational health and safety in the digitalizing work world, highlighting the defining features and uncertainties about best practices from built-in limitations to anticipating what and how the emerging technologies will change the world of work and the dynamics thereof. It proposes the significance of digital leadership across work tasks of an organization an occupational health asset for which employees will need ongoing training in aspects of emerging technologies. In this connection, the chapter discusses employee work role functions in the digitalizing work environment. Next, the chapter discusses employee psychological safety considerations of their organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behavior in digitalized work contexts. Finally, the chapter discusses digital work context qualities of appreciative digital leadership, digital literacy, and evidence-based practices for the longer best occupational health and safety outcomes of employees and their employer organizations.
