Application of the CCHE1D model to the problem of flood control in Nysa Kłodzka reservoir system in Poland

Processes and the Resulting Water Quality in the Medium size Turawa Storage Reservoir after 60 Year Usage
PublicationThe Turawa reservoir built on the Mała Panew river is one of important storage reservoirs in Poland. Quite many physico-chemical parameters of water in the reservoir itself and also in the reservoir inflowing rivers at different times of the year were measured and compared. The changes of water characteristics as well as their reasons and consequences were discussed.

Effect of Impoundment on Physico-chemical Properties of Water in the Flowing through stream, the Case of the Turawa Reservoir
PublicationThe Turawa reservoir is one of the most important storage reservoirs in Poland. Quite many physico-chemical parameters of water in the reservoir itself and also in the Mała Panew, the river flowing through the reservoir were measured at various periods of the year. Measuring and sampling points were situated at the river inflow, over the reservoir, and at the river outflow. The parameters included temperature, electrical conductivity,...

Reservoir Influence on Pressure Wave Propagation in Steel Pipes
PublicationThe relation between the length of steel pipe and the pressure wave period in the system, reservoir-pipe-valve, is discussed. Experiments carried out for the short steel pipes showed that in such a system, the pressure wave celerity estimated using the measured wave cycles systematically increases with the increase of the pipe length. The observed differences can exceed even 90 m=s. As the pressure wave traveling in the pipe with...

Innovative Solutions in Surface Water Quality Monitoring
PublicationIn 2010 a project entitled "Integrated Support System for Management and Protection of Water Dam Reservoir (ZiZOZap)” was initiated, to aid solving water management problems on a river and dam reservoir formed on it. An innovative system of continuous monitoring was created, that encompassed selected physical and chemical parameters of river and lake waters in three chosen sites. This article presents a selection of results, that...

The Application of the Thermal Stabilization Prompted by the Ice Cover Expansion Considering the Energy Production Optimization in the Dam-Reservoir Coupled Systems on the Vistula River
PublicationIn this study, the thermal stabilization of a water resource together with an energy production optimization in the power plant of the dam–reservoir coupled system is conducted. This coupled dam system is designed to consist of a primary (Włocławek) and secondary (Siarzewo) dam due to the erosion control aspect. The other beneficial aspect of this coupled dam design is to have an additional power plant, with the aim of achieving...

The occurrence of heavy metals and metal-resistant bacteria in water and bottom sediments of the Straszyn reservoir (Poland)
PublicationThe aim of this study is investigate the distribution of selected heavy metals (zinc, copper, lead, cadmium) and metal-resistant bacteria in water and bottom sediments of drinking water reservoir for Gdańsk (Poland). The research area - Straszyn Lake is a dam reservoir on Radunia river, of the total volume of 3 mln m3. Sediment and water sampling took place between May and October 2013 (eight series). Regarding metal concentration...

Numerical Simulation of Catastrophic Flood: the Case Study of Hypothetical Failure of the Bielkowo Hydro–Power Plant Reservoir
PublicationThe numerical modeling of flood wave propagation following the hypo-thetical breaks of the embankments of the Bielkowo hydro–power plant storage reservoir (Kolbudy II Reservoir) on the Radunia River in Poland have been presented. The results of computations were used to estimate the parameters of the flood waves, which are indispensable for the flood zone determination and mapping and then for the flood risk analysis. When estimating...

Modeling of Ice Passage Through Reservoirs System on the Vistula River
PublicationNumerical model was used to assess ice passage through proposed reservoir on the lower Vistula River. Model results were compared with observation on the Vistula River, but because the dam is not constructed yet, the direct comparison was not possible. The study focused on ice movement and accumulation in the reservoir for variety of low flow condition with and without wind effect. Bridge’s piers in the upper part of the reservoir...
