Excitation energy transfer in partly ordered polymer films differing in donor and acceptor transition moments orientation
PublicationBased on spectroscopic measurements selected properties of nonradiative Förster energy transport are studied in uniaxially stretched polyvinyl alcohol thin films for three systems differing in donor and acceptor transition moments orientation relative to the axis of stretching. In particular, donor – acceptor emission anisotropy spectra yield completely different regularities for these systems in uniaxially stretched films, whereas...

FIR Filter Design Using Distributed Maximal Flatness Method
PublicationIn the paper a novel method for filter design based on the distributed maximal flatness method is presented. The proposed approach is based on the method used to design the most common FIR fractional delay filter - the maximally flat filter. The MF filter demonstrates excellent performance but only in a relatively narrow frequency range around zero frequency but its magnitude response is no greater than one. This ,,passiveness”...

Design of a Patch Power Divider with Simple Structure and Ultra-Broadband Harmonics Suppression
PublicationThis paper introduces a simple H-shaped patch Wilkinson power divider (WPD), which provides ultra wide harmonics suppression band. The presented WPD designed at 1.8 GHz, and exhibits good performance at the operating bandwidth. In the proposed divider structure, two simple patch low-pass filters (LPFs) are employed at each branch, and three open ended stubs are added at each port. The proposed divider, implemented using the aforementioned...

Seismic pounding between adjacent buildings: Identification of parameters, soil interaction issues and mitigation measures
PublicationStructural pounding has been observed in many previous earthquakes due to insufficient gap commonly provided between adjacent structures. The collisions usually generate large impact forces and short duration acceleration pulses which may result in significant damage to the colliding buildings. Because of that, earthquake induced structural pounding has been intensively studied and investigated for the last three decades. Results...

The realization of ASON/GMPLS control plane
PublicationASON (Automatic Switched Optical Network) is a concept of optical network recommended in G.8080/Y.1304 by ITU-T. Control Plane of this network could be based on GMPLS (Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching) protocols like RSVP-TE, OSPF-TE, LMP. This solution is named ASON/GMPLS. In this chapter we present the control plane problems and proposes ASON/GMPLS network realization that are tested on testbed consists of three and...

Application of Thin ZnO ALD Layers in Fiber-Optic Fabry-Pérot Sensing Interferometers
PublicationIn this paper we investigated the response of a fiber-optic Fabry-Pérot sensing interferometer with thin ZnO layers deposited on the end faces of the optical fibers forming the cavity. Standard telecommunication single-mode optical fiber (SMF-28) segments were used with the thin ZnO layers deposited by Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD). Measurements were performed with the interferometer illuminated by two broadband sources operating...

Optical measurements, showing the influence of the thickness of Al2O3 on plasmon resonance position. The observed red-shift of the resonance location with the increase of the thickness of the Al2O3 film, can be explained by the change in the dielectric function of...

Linearly dispersing band crossings, necessary to generate Dirac fermions, are experimentally observed in the electronic band structure observed using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy,...

Finite Element Approaches to Model Electromechanical, Periodic Beams
PublicationPeriodic structures have some interesting properties, of which the most evident is the presence of band gaps in their frequency spectra. Nowadays, modern technology allows to design dedicated structures of specific features. From the literature arises that it is possible to construct active periodic structures of desired dynamic properties. It can be considered that this may extend the scope of application of such structures. Therefore,...

Accelerated Re-Design of Antenna Structures Using Sensitivity-Based Inverse Surrogates
PublicationThe paper proposes a novel framework for accelerated re-design (dimension scaling) of antenna structures using inverse surrogates. The major contribution of the work is a sensitivity-based model identification procedure, which permits a significant reduction of the number of reference designs required to render the surrogate. Rigorous formulation of the approach is supplemented by its comprehensive numerical validation using a...
