Electromagnetic Problems Requiring High-Precision Computations
PublicationAn overview of the applications of multiple-precision arithmetic in CEM was presented in this paper for the first time. Although double-precision floating-point arithmetic is sufficient for most scientific computations, there is an expanding body of electromagnetic problems requiring multiple-precision arithmetic. Software libraries facilitating these computations were described, and investigations requiring multiple-precision...

IP Core of Coprocessor for Multiple-Precision-Arithmetic Computations
PublicationIn this paper, we present an IP core of coprocessor supporting computations requiring integer multiple-precision arithmetic (MPA). Whilst standard 32/64-bit arithmetic is sufficient to solve many computing problems, there are still applications that require higher numerical precision. Hence, the purpose of the developed coprocessor is to support and offload central processing unit (CPU) in such computations. The developed digital...

Filip Kutt dr inż.
PeopleFilip Kutt was born in Gdansk, Poland. He received the M.Sc., PhD, degrees in electrical engineering in 2007 and 2013, respectively, all from Gdansk University of Technology (GUT) Poland. He is with GUT since 2007, currently as an Assistant Professor. His main scientific and research interests cover a wide spectrum of mathematical modelling of electrical machines using analytical modelling and FEM-based computations.

Krylov Space Iterative Solvers on Graphics Processing Units
PublicationCUDA architecture was introduced by Nvidia three years ago and since then there have been many promising publications demonstrating a huge potential of Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) in scientific computations. In this paper, we investigate the performance of iterative methods such as cg, minres, gmres, bicg that may be used to solve large sparse real and complex systems of equations arising in computational electromagnetics.

Acceleration of Electromagnetic Simulations on Reconfigurable FPGA Card
PublicationIn this contribution, the hardware acceleration of electromagnetic simulations on the reconfigurable field-programmable-gate-array (FPGA) card is presented. In the developed implementation of scientific computations, the matrix-assembly phase of the method of moments (MoM) is accelerated on the Xilinx Alveo U200 card. The computational method involves discretization of the frequency-domain mixed potential integral equation using...

FPGA implementation of the multiplication operation in multiple-precision arithmetic
PublicationAlthough standard 32/64-bit arithmetic is sufficient to solve most of the scientific-computing problems, there are still problems that require higher numerical precision. Multiple-precision arithmetic (MPA) libraries are software tools for emulation of computations in a user-defined precision. However, availability of a reconfigurable cards based on field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) in computing systems allows one to implement...

Molecular Design Using Selected Concentration Effects in Optically Activated Fluorescent Matrices
PublicationMolecular physics plays a pivotal role in various fields, including medicine, pharmaceuticals, and broader industrial applications. This study aims to enhance the methods for producing specific optically active materials with distinct spectroscopic properties at the molecular level, which are crucial for these sectors, while prioritizing human safety in both production and application. Forensic science, a significant socio-economic...

Bringing Bathymetry LiDAR to Coastal Zone Assessment: A Case Study in the Southern Baltic
PublicationOne of the major tasks in environmental protection is monitoring the coast for negative impacts due to climate change and anthropopressure. Remote sensing techniques are often used in studies of impact assessment. Topographic and bathymetric procedures are treated as separate measurement methods, while methods that combine coastal zone analysis with underwater impacts are rarely used in geotechnical analyses. This study presents...

Yade-open DEM: an open-source software using a discrete element methodto simulate granular material
PublicationPurpose - YADE-OPEN DEM is an open source software based on the Discrete Element Method which uses object oriented programming techniques. The paper describes the softwarearchitecture.Design/methodology/approach - The DEM chosen uses position, orientation, velocity and angular velocity as independent variables of simulated particles which are subject to explicit leapfrog time-integration scheme (Lagrangian method). The three-dimensional...

C2 Niwa - The Centre of Competence for Novel Infrastructure of Workable Applications
PublicationScientific and cloud computing are discussed in the paper . The paradigm of EaaS (Everything as a Service) is presented and the design methodology of service oriented applications is proposed. Implementation of the SOSE (Software Oriented Software Engineering) approach is analyzed and the roles of developing teams to obtain software products satisfying business requirements are also shown. The above listed activities create a basic...
