W latach trzydziestych ubiegłego wieku wykonano w Polsce pierwsze pomiary hałasu związanego z ruchem drogowym. Podano zakresy prędkości powyżej których dominującym źródłem hałasu są toczące się opony. Przedstawiono czynniki związane z nawierzchnią i wpływające na hałas toczenia opon.
