Selected properties and parameters of radio channel impulse response estimation in ISM 2.4 GHz band
PublikacjaThe article presents experimental research indicating that the impulse response of the communication channel, determined in practice, are not of an universal character, but only represent its approximate value for the frequency on which this measurement was made. Phases for each of the replicas of the measurement signal were determined during the analysis of the received signals in the baseband. Phase changes of individual replicas...

A system for Direction-Of-Arrival estimation in ISM 2.4 GHz frequency band based on ESPAR antenna and SDR technology
PublikacjaDetermination of the direction of the signal arrival (DOA) finds many applications in various areas of science and industry. Knowledge of DOA is used, among others to determine the position of a satellite with a low Earth orbit (LEO), localization of people and things as well as in research of wireless communication systems, for instance the determination of the number of...

Embedded device for indoor positioning of mobile terminals in ISM 2.4 GHz frequency band integrated with ESPAR antenna
PublikacjaIn the era of multifunctional mobile phones, wireless positioning is one of the most important branches of telecommunications development. This functionality is possible thanks to global positioning systems such as GPS, whose services are available to every average user. Global systems, however, suffer from their low accuracy in confined environments such as forests and building interiors. A popular...

Dual-band antenna with improved gain for WLAN and ISM applications
PublikacjaIn this Letter, a dual-band antenna with an improved gain is proposed. The structure features 9.7 and 10.4 dBi gain within 2.4 GHz to 2.5 GHz and 5 GHz to 6 GHz bands, respectively. This makes it suitable for WLAN and ISM applications. The structure comprises an asymmetrical pair of radiators and slots suspended over a reflector. The antenna is optimised in a two-stage process using a trust-region-based gradient search algorithm....

Localization in wireless sensor networks using switched parasitic antennas
PublikacjaA switched parasitic monopole antenna for 2.4 GHz ISM applications is design and investigated in this paper. One of the most promising applications for such switched-beam antennas is localization in wireless sensor networks (WSN). It is demonstrated that the use of this antenna improves accuracy of localization algorithms and allows for reduction of the number of reference nodes in localization system.

Enhancing Performance of Switched Parasitic Antenna for Localization in Wireless Sensor Networks
PublikacjaThis paper presents an Electronically Steerable Parasitic Array Radiator (ESPAR) antenna with enhanced performance of estimating the incoming signal direction. Designed antenna is dedicated for 2.4 GHz ISM applications with emphasis on Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN). The limitations of the existing design approach are illustrated, as well as perspectives and challenges of the proposed solution in relation to the localization in...

Enhanced switched parasitic antenna with switched active monopoles for indoor positioning systems
PublikacjaThis paper presents the concept of enhanced reduced-size steerable antenna array with two rows of switched active and passive elements. Designed array is similar to ESPAR antenna but it has a set of switched monopoles instead of central one. It is intended for 2.4 GHz ISM applications with emphasis on indoor positioning systems (IPS). Proposed antenna provides improved radiation parameters and reduced dimensions in comparison to...

Compact 4 × 4 butler matrix with non‐standard phase differences for IoT applications
PublikacjaButler matrices represent a popular class of feeding networks for antenna arrays. Large dimensions and the lack of flexibility in terms of achievable output phase difference make conventional Butler structures of limited use for modern communication devices. In this work, a compact planar 4 × 4 matrix with non-standard relative phase shifts of –30º, 150º, –120º, and 60º has been proposed. The structure is designed to operate at...

Design, Realization and Measurements of Enhanced Performance 2.4 GHz ESPAR Antenna for Localization in Wireless Sensor Networks
PublikacjaThis paper presents the design, realization and measurements of an Electronically Steerable Parasitic Array Radiator (ESPAR) antenna with enhanced performance of estimating the incoming signal direction. Designed antenna is dedicated for 2.4 GHz ISM applications with emphasis on Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN). Proposed antenna provides different radiation patterns by proper configuration of the parasitic elements. Thus, several...

Asymmetrical-Slot Antenna with Enhanced Gain for Dual-Band Applications
PublikacjaDual-band operation is an important feature of antennas to be applied in modern communication systems. Although high gain of radiators is rarely of concern in urban areas with densely located broadcasting stations, it becomes crucial for systems operating in more remote environments. In this work, a dual-band antenna with enhanced bandwidth is proposed. The structure consists of a driven element in the form of an asymmetrical radiator/slot...
