  • What is in a name: Defining “high entropy” oxides
    Publication

    - APL Materials - Year 2022

ABSTRACT High entropy oxides are emerging as an exciting new avenue to design highly tailored functional behaviors that have no traditional counterparts. Study and application of these materials are bringing together scientists and engineers from physics, chemistry, and materials science. The diversity of each of these disciplines comes with perspectives and jargon that may be confusing to those outside of the individual fields,...

  • Dirac fermions and possible weak antilocalization in LaCuSb2
    Publication

    - APL Materials - Year 2019

Layered heavy-metal square-lattice compounds have recently emerged as potential Dirac fermion materials due to bonding within those sublattices. We report quantum transport and spectroscopic data on the layered Sb square-lattice material LaCuSb2. Linearly dispersing band crossings, necessary to generate Dirac fermions, are experimentally observed in the electronic band structure observed using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy,...

  • Ferro- and antiferro-magnetism in (Np, Pu)BC
    Publication

    - APL Materials - Year 2015

Two new transuranium metal boron carbides, NpBC and PuBC, have been synthesized. Rietveld refinements of powder XRD patterns of {Np,Pu} BC confirmed in both cases isotypism with the structure type of UBC. Temperature dependent magnetic susceptibility data reveal antiferromagnetic ordering for PuBC below T-N = 44 K, whereas ferromagnetic ordering was found for NpBC below T-C = 61 K. Heat capacity measurements prove the bulk character...
