The planned scientific activity proposed in the project is the develope of composite, pH sensitive coatings on the electrolytically anodized surface of the titanium alloy and the performance of preliminary tests based on the determination of the morphology, chemical, physical and mechanical properties of the obtained coatings. The research proposed by the applicant was not carried out in any of the scientific centers in the world. Preliminary tests will therefore have a significant impact on the development of knowledge in the field of biomaterials surface engineering, and above all biopolymer coatings with the possibility of controlled release of active substances.

The Effect of Marginal Zn2+ Excess Released from Titanium Coating on Differentiation of Human Osteoblastic Cells
PublicationComposite coatings based on chitosan and zinc nanoparticles (ZnNPs) were successfully produced on Ti13Zr13Nb substrates by cathodic electrophoretic deposition (EPD). The unfavorable phenomenon of water electrolysis-induced nonuniformity was reduced by applying a low voltage (20 V) and a short deposition time (1 min). Surface analysis (roughness and hydrophilicity) reveals the potential of these coatings for enhancing cell attachment...
