A pilot study to assess an in-process inspection method for small diameter holes produced by Direct Metal Laser Sintering
PublicationPurpose The purpose of this research is to evaluate the geometric quality of small diameter holes in parts printed by DMLS technology. An in-process optical inspection method is proposed and assessed during a pilot study. The influence of the theoretical hole diameter assumed in a CAD system and the sample thickness (hole length) on the hole clearance was analysed. Design/methodology/approach The samples made of two different...

Application of Rapid Prototyping technology in the manufacturing of turbine blade with small diameter holes
PublicationThe article presents the possibilities of using Rapid Prototyping (RP) technology in the manufacturing of turbine blades with small diameter holes. The object under investigation was gas turbine blade with small diameter cooling holes and holes for generating longitudinal vortices. A turbine blade model was produced by means of Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) technology and subsequently validated in terms of detection and accuracy...

Influence of Holes Manufacture Technology on Perforated Plate Aerodynamics
PublicationTranspiration flow is a very important and still open subject in many technical applications. Perforated walls are useful for the purpose of “flow control”, as well as for the cooling of walls and blades (effusive cooling) in gas turbines. We are still not able to include large numbers of holes in the numerical calculations and therefore we need physical models. Problems are related also to the quality of the holes in perforated...

Sliding burnishing technology of holes in hardened steel
PublicationNew technology with sliding burnishing of holes with cylindrical surface, made of hardened steel /60 HRC/, is presented in the paper. After burnishing operation on hole diameter 30 mm in satellite gear wheel the surface roughness parameter Ra=0,02-0,04 micrometers was obtained. The method and results of research as technological conclusion are presented.

An empirical study on the impact of AspectJ on software evolvability
PublicationSince its inception in 1996, aspect-oriented programming (AOP) has been believed to reduce the effort required to maintain software systems by replacing cross-cutting code with aspects. However, little convincing empirical evidence exists to support this claim, while several studies suggest that AOP brings new obstacles to maintainability. This paper discusses two experiments conducted to evaluate the impact of AspectJ (the most...

Application of 3D printing metal powder technology in the manufacture of components with complex geometries
PublicationThe possibilities of using 3D printing powder technologies for making objects with complex geometries were presented. For this purpose, selected examples of elements with different geometries were used, which were built using metal powder methods – DMLS (direct metal laser sintering) / SLM (selective laser melting). Simultaneously, the indicated elements concern those areas of industry where 3D printing technology has been widely...

Improvement of Task Management with Process Models in Small and Medium Software Companies
PublicationSmall and medium software companies exhibit many special features that give reason for a dedicated approach to process improvement. They often cannot afford implementing maturity models or quality standards both in terms of time and money. Instead, they expect simpler solutions that can allow to run projects in more systematic and repeatable way, increase quality and knowledge management. In this paper, we present a method focused...
