Reliability Modeling for SPMD and DAC Applications in MERPSYS
PublicationIn this chapter we shall see a method for modeling of reliability of application execution in the MERPSYS system, and the results of reliability simulation of the same SPMD and DAC application which we have previously presented in this book. Unlike energy usage modeling and modeling of execution efficiency we could not compare the reliability model and simulation results to real experiment just because the experiment would last too...

Nanoconfined Ionic Liquids. Properties and analytical applications
PublicationThe synergistic combination of ionic liquids (ILs) and solid‐like matrices involves a powerful coupling towards the development of new sustainable analytical methodologies. Here we survey the literature regarding such ionic liquid‐based hybrid materials, including a database on relevant physicochemical properties of ionic liquids confined in a solid network. Furthermore, this chapter presents the strategies implemented to combine...

Image Processing Techniques for Distributed Grid Applications
PublicationParallel approaches to 2D and 3D convolution processing of series of images have been presented. A distributed, practically oriented, 2D spatial convolution scheme has been elaborated and extended into the temporal domain. Complexity of the scheme has been determined and analysed with respect to coefficients in convolution kernels. Possibilities of parallelisation of the convolution operations have been analysed and the results...

Online Sound Restoration for Digital Library Applications
PublicationA system for sound restoration was conceived and engineered having the following features: no special sound restoration software is needed to perform audio restoration by the user, the process of restoration employs automatic reduction of noise, wow and impulse distortions performed in the online mode, no skills in digital signal processing from the user are needed. The principles of the created system and its features as well...

Product Graph Invariants with Applications in the Theory of Information
PublicationThere are a large number of graph invariants. In the paper, we consider some of them, e.g. the independence and chromatic numbers. It is well know that we cannot efficiently calculate these numbers for arbitrary graphs. In the paper we present relations between these invariants and concepts from the theory of information. Concepts such as source coding and transmission over a noisy channel with zero probability of error are modeled...

Control of a vapour microturbine set in cogeneration applications
PublicationSystems with microturbines are implemented for local generation of heat and electricity. This paper presents the analysis of control concepts for a vapour microturbine set with a generator with permanent magnets, intended to work in small heat and power plants. Control system variants differed by the selection of controlled signals and set parameters. Possible ways of control were discussed and compared with experimentally determined...

M2M communications system proposal for maritime applications
PublicationThis article describes the proposal to use the M2M communication to enhance the safety of people, ships and other marine infrastructure, in broadly defined marine systems. In addition, there are numerous examples of planned solutions to be implemented in the near future as well as new services. The proposal for M2M communication system architecture is described below. In addition, the use of the STRUGA system radio interface as...

Hydrogels Based on Natural Polymers for Cardiac Applications
PublicationIn this work agar- and borax-based hydrogels with and without the addition of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) at different concentrations were synthesized. Hydrogels were modified by the same amount of acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) which exhibits antithrombotic properties. The effect of modification by ASA on the properties of hydrogels was analyzed.

Compact 4 × 4 butler matrix with non‐standard phase differences for IoT applications
PublicationButler matrices represent a popular class of feeding networks for antenna arrays. Large dimensions and the lack of flexibility in terms of achievable output phase difference make conventional Butler structures of limited use for modern communication devices. In this work, a compact planar 4 × 4 matrix with non-standard relative phase shifts of –30º, 150º, –120º, and 60º has been proposed. The structure is designed to operate at...

RSS-Based DoA Estimation Using ESPAR Antenna for V2X Applications in 802.11p Frequency Band
PublicationIn this paper, we have proposed direction-of arrival (DoA) estimation of incoming signals for V2X applications in 802. 11p frequency band, based on recording of received signal strength (RSS) at electronically steerable parasitic array radiator (ESPAR) antenna's output port. The motivation of the work was to prove that ESPAR antenna used to increase connectivity and security in V2X communication can be also used for DoA estimation....

Interdisciplinary research as a form of monument protection and preparation for the investment process on the example of the former Gdańsk Shipyard complex
PublicationThe multi-layered heritage of many industrial plants operating until the end of the 20th century creates a particular challenge for conservators, designers and investors. In the process of protecting its values, displaying qualities and managing the property, it is necessary to recognize a wider transformation of technology of the entire plant and the individual functions of its buildings, as well as the context of intangible...

Design of compact self-quintuplexing antenna with high-isolation for penta-band applications
PublicationThis article presents a novel compact self-quintuplexing antenna architecture based on a substrate-integrated rectangular cavity (SIRC) for pentaband applications. The proposed self-quintuplexing antenna is constructed by employing an SIRC, one Pi-shaped slot (PSS), one T-shaped slot (TSS), and five 50Ω microstrip feedlines. The PSS and TSS are engraved on the top of the SIRC to create five radiating patches, which are excited...

Properties of Thermally Dewetted Thin Au Films on ITO-Coated Glass for Biosensing Applications
PublicationNoble metal nanostructures are object of great interest due to their unique optical and electronic properties exploited in nanotechnology, medicine, biochemistry, and surface-enhanced spectroscopies. In this work, the Au nanoparticle (NP) structures for application in biosensing obtained by dewetting are investigated in dependence on their preparation conditions. Structures are produced from thin Au films (5–30 nm) sputtered onto...
