Istotne znaczenie w kwestii pomocy imigrantom mają: status uchodźcy oraz instytucja azylu. Wyznaczają one nie tylko prawa osób posiadających statut uchodźcy czy azylanta ale również obowiązki9 państwa przyjmującego.
