  • Analysis of Rolling Resistance of Tires With Run Flat Insert
    Publikacja

    - Key Engineering Materials - Rok 2014

Run flat properties are required for tires intended for special applications like military or rescue vehicles. Run-Flat inserts make possible to drive a car or truck, with certain restrictions, also when inflation pressure is very low or non-existing (after tire damage). Rolling resistance of tires rolling the inserts increases considerably in relation to the rolling resistance of properly inflated tires. This paper presents results...

  • Comparison of road and laboratory measurements of tyre/road noise

Tyre/road noise is one of the major environmental problems related to road traffic. There are several measuring methods of tyre/road noise that may be carried out on the road (for example Coast-down and Close Proximity Method) or in the laboratory (Drum Method). Road measurements are preferred for evaluations of pavement properties while laboratory methods are mostly used to evaluate tyres. One of the biggest problems associated...

  • Environmental degradation of Ti alloys in artificial saliva and a role of fluorides

The titanium and its alloys are potentially prone to hydrogen embrittlement, including those proposed for dental implants. The research has been aimed to assess a susceptibility to environment-enhanced degradation of the Ti-13Zr-13Nb alloy in artificial saliva with or without hydrofluoric acid, subject or not to cathodic polarisation. The results have shown that even if artificial saliva is safe environment, both cathodic polarization...

  • HOW EFFICIENT IS NOISE LABELING OF TIRES?

Since 2012 all new tires in Europe must be labeled. The label contains general information about tire performance concerning rolling resistance (that corresponds to fuel economy), noise emission and wet grip (only for passenger car tires). Measurements of noise performance of tires must be performed according to the Annex 3 of the Regulation No 117 of the Economic Commission for Europe of the United Nations. The regulation specifies...

  • IN VIVO DEGRADATION OF BIOMATERIALS
    Publikacja

    - Rok 2014

The material designed to be introduced into the human tissue should be biocompatible and biofunctional. Unless it is so, the body may respond to the implant in different ways. An inflammation reaction may appear such as: parting of items of the implant surface resulting from fraction or pressure. The condition of the surface has an important influence on the usefulness of the implant. The required values depend on the implant function...

  • LOW NOISE TIRES FOR HYBRID AND ELECTRIC VEHICLES
    Publikacja

Low Emission Vehicles that are hybrid and electric cars may benefit from specially designed tires that are optimized for driving conditions typical for such vehicles. It is possible that in the future Low Emission Vehicles, especially passenger cars, will substitute conventional vehicles in all applications, however for the time being they are mostly used in urban and suburban areas. Urban traffic has a rather low demand for grip...

  • Methods of Tire Rolling Resistance Measurements
    Publikacja

Tire rolling resistance is one of the factors related to tire/road interaction that has important influence on road vehicles performance. Raising fuel price and increased concern related to the environmental changes result in growing interest in reduction of tire rolling resistance that influences fuel consumption, especially in free-flowing highway traffic with moderate speeds. There are several methods of tire rolling resistance measurements....

  • Mn Road Facility Badania nawierzchni drogowych w amerykańskim stylu

  • Reduction of Tire Rolling Resistance by Optimization of Road Surfaces and Tires

During interaction between tire and road surface three very important phenomena are always in effect. One of them (very desirable) is friction that is important for traction, braking and cornering. Two other phenomena are not desirable at all, that is rolling resistance and noise. This paper discusses relations between road surface and tire parameters versus tire rolling resistance. Road surface texture, porosity, impedance, strength...

  • Road texture influence on tire rolling resistance

Tire rolling resistance is one of the most important resistive forces acting on road vehicles. It depends on tire and surface characteristics as well as vehicle operating parameters. This paper deals with the influence of road surface texture on rolling resistance of passenger car tires. Results of road measurements performed on variety of road surfaces are presented.

  • Tyre/road noise reduction by a poroelastic road surface
    Publikacja

Low noise road surfaces of existing types may in favourable cases and in new conditions provide up to 7 dB of noise reduction. For higher noise reductions, innovative solutions must be sought. Poroelastic road surfaces (PERS) may be such a solution, which currently is studied in the EU project PERSUADE. This paper presents results of trials with a PERS version prefabricated by one of the project partners. Tests were made in a laboratory...
