Superexcited states in the vacuum-ultraviolet photofragmentation of isoxazole molecules
PublikacjaThe photofragmentation of isoxazole molecules producing excited atomic and molecular fragments has been investigated over the energy range 16-50 eV, using photon-induced fluorescence spectroscopy. The following fragments have been identified by their fluorescence: the excited hydrogen atoms H(n), n = 3-7 and the diatomic CH(A2Δ, B2Σ−), CN(B2Σ+) and C2(d3Πg) fragments. The diatomic fragments are vibrationally and highly rotationally...

Degradation kinetics and mechanism of pentoxifylline by ultraviolet activated peroxydisulfate
PublikacjaDegradation of pentoxifylline (PTX) by sodium peroxydisulfate (SPDS) assisted by UV irradiation has been investigated in deionized water. The treatment was more favorable over direct photolysis or peroxydisulfate oxidation alone. The effects of various parameters, including different dosage of oxidant agent, PTX concentration, initial solution pH levels, and the presence of inorganic ions like chloride, nitrate and carbonate have...

Vacuum ultraviolet photoionization and ionic fragmentation of the isoxazole molecules
PublikacjaThe photofragmentation of the isoxazole molecules producing ionized atomic and molecular fragments was investigated in the photon energy range of 9e32 eV, using synchrotron radiation excitation combined with ion time-of-flight spectrometry. Twenty-one well resolved cations were identified in the mass spectra of the isoxazole, and their appearance energies were determined. The yield curves of these cations were obtained in the photon...

Elimination and migration of hydrogen in the vacuum-ultraviolet photodissociation of pyridine molecules
PublikacjaElimination of the excited hydrogen atoms H(n), n = 4–7, and hydrogen migration in formation of the excited NH(A 3Π) free radicals in the photodissociation of pyridine, C5H5N, molecules have been studied over the 17.5–70 eV photon energy range. In the measurements the photon-induced fluorescence spectroscopy technique has been applied. Both fragments are produced through excitation of pyridine molecules into higher-lying superexcited...

Measuring the density of DNA films using ultraviolet-visible interferometry
PublikacjaIn order to determine a proper value for the density of dry DNA films we have used a method based upon the measurement of interference effects in transmission spectra of thin DNA layers. Our results show that the methodology is effective and the density of DNA in this state, 1.407 g/cm3, is much lower than the commonly used 1.7 g/cm3. Obtaining accurate values for the DNA film density will allow the optical constants for DNA to...

Formation of CN (B2∑+) radicals in the vacuum-ultraviolet photodissociation of pyridine and pyrimidine molecules
PublikacjaFormation of the excited CN(B2∑+) free radicals in the photodissociation of pyridine (C5H5N) and pyrimidine (C4H4N2) molecules was investigated over the energy ranges 16–27 and 14.7–25 eV, respectively. Photon-induced fluorescence spectroscopy was applied to detect the vibrationally and rotationally excited CN radicals by recording the B2∑+→X2∑+ emission bands (violet system). The measured dissociation yield curves demonstrate...

Photofragmentation of tetrahydrofuran molecules in the vacuum-ultraviolet region via superexcited states studied by fluorescence spectroscopy
PublikacjaPhotofragmentation of tetrahydrofuran molecules in the vacuum-ultraviolet region, producing excited atomic and molecular fragments, has been studied over the energy range 14-68 eV using photon-induced fluorescence spectroscopy. Excited hydrogen atoms H(n), n = 3-11, have been detected by observation of the Hα to Hı lines of the Balmer series. The diatomic CH(A2Δ), CH(B2Σ-) and C2(d3Πg) fragments, which are excited to low vibrational...

Study of ultraviolet-visible fluorescence emission following resonant Auger decay of the 2p-1nl core-excited states of argon atoms
PublikacjaWe have studied the excitation and relaxation of Ar+ ions populated in resonant Auger decay from the Ar 2p−1nl core-excited states by using ultraviolet-visible fluorescence spectroscopy and photon-photon delayed coincidence technique. Fluorescence emission yields were measured in the photon energy range of 240-–255 eV for the 3s23p4(1D)5s(2D) → 3s23p4(1D)4p(2F) (393 nm) and 3s23p4(1D)4d(2F) → 3s23p4(1D)4p(2F) (335 nm) transitions...
