  The UvrA protein is a DNA-binding and damage-recognition enzyme which participates in the prokaryotic type nucleotide excision repair (NER) pathway. It has recently been noted that some bacterial genomes comprise additional uvrA genes which encode five distinct types of UvrA homologue.
