Proximity and the Cluster Organization
PublicationIncluding the category of proximity in theoretical considerations and empirical analyzes in cluster organizations is an attempt to integrate existing approaches to understand and explain the specificity of inter-organizational cooperation developed in geographical proximity. The importance of geographical proximity to create a competitive advantage is emphasized in all theories on the establishment and development of industrial...

An overview of fermentation in the food industry - looking back from a new perspective
PublicationFermentation is thought to be born in the Fertile Crescent, and since then, almost every culture has integrated fermented foods into their dietary habits. Originally used to preserve foods, fermentation is now applied to improve their physicochemical, sensory, nutritional, and safety attributes. Fermented dairy, alcoholic beverages like wine and beer, fermented vegetables, fruits, and meats are all highly valuable due to their...

Rush to become "globally relevant"- culture based development as a significant factor towards sustainable urbanization (Gdansk Case)
PublicationThe paper shows possibilities and barriers as well as attempts to implement culture based development in Gdansk. It can play a significant role in preventing uncontrolled suburban residential development and further spatial polarization of the city.

Quasi-analytical Near-to-Far Field Transformation Based on Field Matching Method for Scattering Problems
PublicationA new quasi-analytical near-to-far field transformation based on field matching method (field expansion in a base of Hankel functions) is presented. This approach uses finite element method to obtain near field, then the field is expressed in a base of Hankel functions. The evaluated coefficients allow to calculate the field outside the numerical domain, also in a far distance. The main advantage of the proposed technique is avoiding of...

Thermo-resonance analysis of an excited graphene sheet using a new approach
PublicationForced vibration of graphene nanoplate based on a refined plate theory in conjunction with higher-order nonlocal strain gradient theory in the thermal environment has been investigated. Regarding the higher-order nonlocal strain gradient theory, both stress nonlocality and size-dependent effects are taken into account, so the equilibrium equations which are governing on the graphene sheet have been formulated by the theory....

Development of potent and effective SARS-CoV-2 main protease inhibitors based on maleimide analogs for the potential treatment of COVID-19
PublicationIn the present work, we report a new series of potent SARS-CoV-2 Main Protease (Mpro) inhibitors based on maleimide derivatives. The inhibitory activities were tested in an enzymatic assay using recombinant Mpro (3CL Protease from coronavirus SARS-CoV-2). Within the set of new Mpro inhibitors, 6e demonstrated the highest activity in the enzymatic assay with an IC50 value of 8.52 ± 0.44 mM. The IC50 value for Nirmatrelvir (PF-07321332,...

Fuzzy Methods and Models for a Team-Building Process
PublicationThis chapter contains an introduction to fuzzy-logic model-based approaches for a team-building process. Such appraches allow extending typical recruiting practice and selection processes to enable a wider and more precise assessment of a new team and/or existing team members, taking into account both their hard and soft skills. Moreover, as effectiveness of teams depends on the interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence...

New method to monitor changes in the subarachnoid width and pial artery pulsation for physiological and clinical research
PublicationThere are several medical conditions associated with brain oedema such as traumatic brain injury, intoxication or tumors. Brain edema and related brain parenchyma expansion may lead to compression and subsequent injury of several brain structures. So far, the only method enabling detection and monitoring of the progress a cerebral oedema in a patient, has been monitoring of intracranial pressure (ICP) with a pressure probe inserted...
