Channel Blockage and Flow Maldistribution during Unsteady Flow in a Model Microchannel Plate heat Exchanger
PublicationThis paper describes the problem of channel blockage as a result of flow maldistribution between the channels of a model mini channel plate heat exchanger consisting of one pass on each leg. Each leg of the heat exchanger contains 51 parallel and rectangular minichannels of four hydraulic diameters namely 461 μm, 571 μm, 750 μm and 823 μm. In addition, a more complex geometry has been investigated where for the sake of breaking...

Studies on formation and percolation in ionic liquids/TX-100/water microemulsions
PublicationTernary microemulsion systems of H2O/Triton X-100/[BMIM][Tf2N], and H2O/Triton X-100/[BMIM][PF6] were prepared, compared and characterized for phase behavior for different water/surfactant ratios, at 25 °C. It was found that a change of an anion structure in the ionic liquids determines the total monophasic area of the systems. A liquid crystalline mesophase was detected in H2O/Triton X-100/[BMIM][PF6]. The microemulsion domains...

The Thin-Layer Microchromatography (μTLC) and TLC–FID Technique as a New Methodology in the Study of Lubricating Oils
PublicationThis paper concerns the possibility of using TLC coupled with a flame ionization detector (FID) and micro-TLC (μTLC) as precursors for microfluidized devices of analytical techniques to identify and determine the presence and content of the petroleum/vegetable oil base in the lubricating oils applied in cutting devices (chainsaws). This research is related to the problem of ensuring, in compliance with the requirements of environmental...

Offshore surface waters of Antarctica are free of microplastics, as revealed by a circum-Antarctic study
PublicationIn 2018, during a circum navigation of Antarctica below 62° S by the sailing boat Katharsis II, the presence of plastics was investigated with surface sampling nets at ten evenly spaced locations (every 36° of longitude). Although fibres that appeared to be plastic (particles up to 2 cm) were found in numbers ranging from 1 particle (0.002 particles per m3) to 171 particles (1.366 particles per m3) per station, a Fourier-transform...

Calibration of acoustic vector sensor based on MEMS microphones for DOA estimation
PublicationA procedure of calibration of a custom 3D acoustic vector sensor (AVS) for the purpose of direction of arrival (DoA) estimation, is presented and validated in the paper. AVS devices working on a p-p principle may be constructed from standard pressure sensors and a signal processing system. However, in order to ensure accurate DoA estimation, each sensor needs to be calibrated. The proposed algorithm divides the calibration process...

A diagnosis method of analog parts of mixed-signal systems controlled by microcontrollers.

Development of the sound field 3D intensity probe based on miniature microphones
PublicationThe engineered measuring probe uses three pairs of miniature microphones coupled. The signals from the microphones after an initial amplification are fed to differential circuits. Due to the required symmetry of the circuit it was necessary to select electronic components very carefully. Moreover, additional digital signal processing techniques were applied to avoid amplitude and phase mismatch. The view of the engineered probe...

Recuperator with microjet technology as a proposal for heat recovery from low-temperature sources
PublicationA tendency to increase the importance of so called dispersed generation, based on the local energy sources and the working systems uti- lizing both the fossil fuels and the renewable energy resources is observed nowadays. Generation of electricity on industrial or domestic scale together with production of heat can be obtained for example through employment of the ORC systems. It is mentioned in the EU directive 2012/27/EU for...

Invasive Assessment of the Myocardial Microcirculation during Beating Heart Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting
PublicationCoronary artery bypass grafting may be associated with several cardiac complications, including ischemia, acute myocardial infarction, arrhythmias, or hemodynamic instability. Accumulating evidence suggests that well-developed coronary collateral circulation may protect against adverse effects, including myocardial ischemia. Assessment of myocardial microvascular perfusion is, therefore, of great clinical interest in beating heart...
