Fast Multi-Objective Optimization of Narrow-Band Antennas Using RSA Models and Design Space Reduction
PublicationComputationally efficient technique for multi-objective design optimization of narrow-band antennas is presented. In our approach, the corrected low-fidelity antenna model (obtained through coarse-discretization EM simulations) is enhanced using frequency scaling and response correction, sampled, and utilized to obtain a fast response surface approximation (RSA) antenna surrogate. The RSA model is constructed in the reduced design space....

PublicationThe preliminary diagnostic utility of two mixtures of Toxoplasma gondii recombinant antigens (rROP1+rSAG2 and rROP1+rGRA6) in IgG ELISA and IgG avidity test has been evaluated. A total of 173 serum samples from patients with toxoplasmosis and seronegative people were examined. The sensitivity of IgG ELISA for rROP1+rSAG2 and rROP1+rGRA6 was 91.1% and 76.7%, respectively, while the reactivity for sera from patients where acute toxoplasmosis...

Computationally Efficient Multi-Objective Optimization of and Experimental Validation of Yagi-Uda Antenna
PublicationIn this paper, computationally efficient multi-objective optimization of antenna structures is discussed. As a design case, we consider a multi-parameter planar Yagi-Uda antenna structure, featuring a driven element, three directors, and a feeding structure. Direct optimization of the high-fidelity electromagnetic (EM) antenna model is prohibitive in computational terms. Instead, our design methodology exploits response surface...

In our approach, a response surface approximation (RSA) model created from sampled coarse-discretization EM antenna simulations is utilized to yield an initial set of Pareto-optimal designs using a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm. The final Pareto front representation for the high-fidelity model is obtained using surrogate-based...

Expedited EM-driven multi-objective antenna design in highly-dimensional parameter spaces
PublicationA technique for low-cost multi-objective optimization of antennas in highly-dimensional parameter spaces is presented. The optimization procedure is expedited by exploiting fast surrogate models, including coarse-discretization EM antenna simulations and response surface approximations (RSA). The latter is utilized to yield an initial set of Pareto non-dominated designs which are further refined using response correction methods....

Size Reduction of Microwave Couplers by EM-Driven Optimization
PublicationThis work addresses simulation-driven design optimization of compact microwave couplers that explicitly aims at circuit footprint area reduction. The penalty function approach allows us to minimize the area of the circuit while ensuring a proper power division between the output ports and providing a sufficient bandwidth with respect to return loss and isolation around the operating frequency. Computational cost of the optimization...

Expedited constrained multi-objective aerodynamic shape optimization by means of physics-based surrogates
PublicationIn the paper, computationally efficient constrained multi-objective design optimization of transonic airfoil profiles is considered. Our methodology focuses on fixed-lift design aimed at finding the best possible trade-offs between the two objectives: minimization of the drag coefficient and maximization of the pitching moment. The algorithm presented here exploits the surrogate-based optimization principle, variable-fidelity computational...

Rapid multi-objective antenna design using point-by-point Pareto set identification and local surrogate models
PublicationAntenna design is inherently a multicriterial problem.Determination of the best possible tradeoffs between conflicting objectives (a so-called Pareto front), such as reflection response, gain, and antenna size, is indispensable from the designer’s point of view, yet challenging when high-fidelity electromagnetic (EM) simulations are utilized for performance evaluation. Here, a novel and computationally...

Cost-Efficient Design Methodology for Compact Rat-Race Couplers
PublicationIn this article, a reliable and low-cost design methodology for simulation-driven optimization of miniaturized rat-race couplers (RRCs) is presented. We exploit a two-stage design approach, where a composite structure (a basic building block of the RRC structure) is first optimized using a pattern search algorithm, and, subsequently, the entire coupler is tuned by means of surrogate-based optimization (SBO) procedure. SBO is executed...

ECG-Derived Respiration (EDR) method is the latter one. However, in this case, two approaches could be distinguished. First one is based on determining changes in the morphology of QRS complexes while the second one is based on the Respiratory Sinus Arrhythmia (RSA) mechanism. The former approach...
