Optimising approach to designing kernel PCA model for diagnosis purposes with and without a priori known data reflecting faulty states
PublicationFault detection plays an important role in advanced control of complex dynamic systems since precise information about system condition enables efficient control. Data driven methods of fault detection give the chance to monitor the plant state purely based on gathered measurements. However, they especially nonlinear, still suffer from a lack of efficient and effective learning methods. In this paper we propose the two stages learning...

DYNAMIC MECHANICAL BEHAVIOUR OF GFRP COMPOSITES WITH SiO2 NANO PARTICLES REINFORCED EPOXY MATRIX
PublicationDynamic mechanic (DMA) tests were performed to compare the mechanical behaviour of glass fibre reinforced epoxy laminate composites with SiO2 nanoparticle reinforced matrix. The selection of the most promising nanoparticle concentrations was considered in terms of elastic modulus and glass transition temperature. The reference specimens (0% nanoparticles) did not contain diluent accordingly the results do not allow the exact comparison...

Large Hydrodynamic Thrust Bearings and Their Application in Hydrogenerators
PublicationLarge hydrodynamic thrust bearings are the bearings which, due to hydrodynamic lubrication, allow large axial load to be transferred from a moving part (shaft) to the stationary part via a thin layer of the lubricant (usually oil), thus providing extremely low friction and practically no wear. Hydrogenerators with vertical shafts are the most important application of large thrust bearings. Main design and scientific problems of...

Application of the fluid–structure interaction technique for the analysis of hydrodynamic lubrication problems.
PublicationFluid–structure interaction technique seems to be one of the most promising possibilities for theoretical analysis of lubrication problems. It allows coupling of different physical fields in one computational task, taking into account the interaction between them. In this article, two sets of fluid–structure interaction analyses focusing on the bearing performance evaluation are presented. One analysis was applied to a water-lubricated...

Degradation of Gel-Coat Layer in Glass/Polyester Laminate in Seawater Environment
PublicationGlass/polyester laminate coated with gelcoat layer of different thickness 0,5; 1,5; 3 mm was studied in terms of blistering behaviour and water sorption in hot water environment. Blistering was found to be accelerated for thin (0,5 mm) gel-coat layer compared to the thick (1,5; 3 mm), however no significant difference in blistering behaviour was observed between the laminates with gel-coat thickness 1,5 and 3 mm which may suggest...

Wpływ metody wytwarzania na właściwości laminatów poliestrowo/szklanych do budowy małych jednostek pływających
PublicationW pracy porównano pod względem mikrostruktury i wybranych wskaźników wytrzymałościowych jakość laminatów poliestowo/szklanych wytworzonych w zakładzie budowy dużych łodzi motorowych za pomocą metod: ręcznej, worka próżniowego i infuzji. Badano jakość struktury pod kątem udziału osnowy żywicznej i liczby pęcherzy za pomocą SEM i analizy obrazu. Porównano własności mechaniczne na podstawie prób: trzypunktowego zginania, ścinania...

On degradation of glass/polyester laminate immersed in water
PublicationMechanical behaviour was compared for glass/ polyester laminates manufactured in the boatbuilding plant using three methods: hand lay-up, vacuum bagging, infusion. Specimens were tested in dry condition and following accelerated water immersion test (70°C- corresponding to the exposure of 30 years at 19°C). In three point bending test 40-50% reduction in laminate strength was observed due to water immersion. The highest degradation...

Wideband Macromodels in Finite Element Method
PublicationThis letter proposes a novel projection technique for accelerating Finite Element Method simulations. The algorithm is based on the Second-order Arnoldi Method for Passive Order Reduction (SAPOR). It involves generation of two projection bases and thanks to this it is applicable to the systems of equations, which contain the quadratic frequency-dependence in the input term, that arise when projection is applied locally in the selected...

Model Order Reduction for Problems With Dispersive Surface Boundary Conditions
PublicationThis letter proposes a new scheme for reduced-order finite-element modeling of electromagnetic structures with nonlinear, dispersive surface boundary conditions, which optimally exploits the numerically stable and efficient MOR framework for second-order systems provided by SAPOR method. The presented results of numerical experiments for an example of a waveguide filter demonstrate the superior accuracy of the resulting reduced models...

Field tests on hydrodynamic and hybrid operation of a bi-directional thrust bearing of a pump-turbine
PublicationIn vertical shaft pump turbines operating in pumped storage power plants an important role is played by a thrust bearing. Because of bi-directional character of operation, thrust bearing tilting pads have to be supported symmetrically, which is known to be unfavourable from the point of view of their performance. Large thrust bearings have to be carefully designed so as to minimise excessive thermo-elastic pad deformations. The...

Greedy Multipoint Model-Order Reduction Technique for Fast Computation of Scattering Parameters of Electromagnetic Systems
PublicationThis paper attempts to develop a new automated multipoint model-order reduction (MOR) technique, based on matching moments of the system input–output function, which would be suited for fast and accurate computation of scattering parameters for electromagnetic (EM) systems over a wide frequency band. To this end, two questions are addressed. Firstly, the cost of the wideband reduced model generation is optimized by automating a...

Selected aspects of the surface quality of the wooden elements after planing
PublicationThe quality of the surface of wooden elements, that have been planed, has got a crucial meaning in the whole production process flow, since the obtained effects affect the quality of wooden surface after painting. The emergence of defects in most cases causes need to qualify workpiece as a scrap part or additional work activity must be done. In the paper selected results of the investigation of the effect of the cutting tool wear...

Effect of long term service at elevated temperatures on mechanical properties of Manaurite XM reformer tubes
PublicationMicrostructure transformations occur in the Manaurite XM cast steel tubes during long-term operation in the reformer furnace were revealed and described. The rela tionship between mechanical properties, an increase of internal diameter of the tube and microstructure degradation is discussed. Static tensile test was performed on two types of samples with different shapes. It has been shown differences in the results of tests...

Automatic Breath Analysis System Using Convolutional Neural Networks
PublicationDiseases related to the human respiratory system have always been a burden for the entire society. The situation has become particularly difficult now after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Even now, however, it is not uncommon for people to consult their doctor too late, after the disease has developed. To protect patients from severe disease, it is recommended that any symptoms disturbing the respiratory system be detected...
