Carbon dioxide sequestration during shale gas recovery
PublicationThis paper presents literature on theoretical and practical aspects of gas production from shale using carbon dioxide fracturing. Development of technical and environmental aspects of carbon dioxide fracturing technologies is also considered. Patents applicable to carbon dioxide fracturing are reviewed. There were also conducted researches to evaluate possibility of carbon dioxide sequestration in shale gas reservoirs.

Explanation of Reduction of Pressure Forces in Turbine Chamber Seals
PublicationThe paper describes a chamber seal reducing the aerodynamic forces created in shroud seals. Asymmetrical pressure distribution (due to rotor-stator eccentricity) in the blade tip clearance leads to the creation of pressure forces acting on the blade shroud. By increasing the volume above the shroud, the pressure distribution becomes more uniform on the whole shroud circumference and the effect of rotor eccentricity is reduced....

Environmental aspects of shale gas recovery in Baltic Basin
PublicationFactors limiting shale gas exploration and exploitation in Pomorskie Voivodeship are presented. In particular, ground and surface water availability and land/community impact is discussed. Production from unconventional reservoirs requires proper well completion through hydraulic fracturing, hence voluminous streams of water are needed – in total 8000 to 20000 m3 per 1000 m of borehole length. 17 major groundwater basins were characterized....

Non-aqueous Fracturing Technologies for Shale Gas Recovery
PublicationTechnologie szczelinowania wykorzystywane podczas wydobycia gazu z łupków zostały rozwinięte głównie w USA i są obecnie przystosowywane do warunków geologicznych i wymagań ekologicznych w innych państwach. Praca przedstawia literaturę na temat teoretycznych i praktycznych aspektów wydobycia gazu z łupków z naciskiem na technologie alternatywne do szczelinowania hydraulicznego. Rozpatrzono również techniczne i środowiskowe aspekty...

Wettability of shale rock as an indicator of fracturing fluid composition
PublicationShales have become one of the main unconventional gas resources in the world. However, physicochemical properties of rocks are still at the center of research. There have been conducted major researches in wettability of shales by fluids and advances in understanding and control of shale rock wettability. Also influence of interfacial phenomena on a production capacity of reservoirs have been made. The aim of this study is to find...

Influence of lubricating oil improvers on performance of crankshaft seals
PublicationThis paper presents an original method for checking influence of lubricating oil improvers on performance of crankshaft seals of combustion piston engine. Crankshaft seals were tested with the use of a modified friction node of T-02 four- ball apparatus in laboratory conditions. The tests were conducted according to a worked-out algorithm. Their results confirmed usefulness of the method for determining „harmful” performance...

NEW DESIGNS OF MAGNETIC FLUID SEALS FOR RECIPROCATING MOTION
PublicationT he operating conditions of magnetic fluid seals during reciprocating motion are so different from those observed in rotating motion that the use of their conventional structures for reciprocating motion seals yields no good results. The analysis of the sealing mechanism of magnetic fluid seals in reciprocating motion shows that the operation of these seals is affected by the carry-over phenomenon and magnetic fluid...

Effect of different crystalline structures on W/O and O/W/O wax emulsion stability
PublicationtThe possibility of emulsion stabilization using mineral and vegetable wax particles only (without sur-factant) was investigated. Mineral waxes, paraffin wax and ceresin, and a vegetable wax, carnauba wax, were used. The content of the wax particles and the water to oil proportion were found crucial for thestability of all emulsions. Some emulsions were also produced with a liquid wax (i.e. jojoba oil). Themultiple light scattering...

Near-Field Wireless Sensing of Plastics and Papers Using Frugal Peel-Off Passive Tag
PublicationThis article presents a novel frugal approach of testing plastics and papers using a near-field microwave sensing technique with a peel-off tag. The proposed sensing technique involves two electrical entities: the sensor, which may be regarded as a reader, and a disposable tag. The reader is a modified design of a gap-coupled microstrip line (GCML) sensor, while the passive tag is a standard double-ring complementary split-ring...
