Evaluating optimal inerter location for tuned mass damper inerter systems in multi-storey buildings considering SSI effects
Abstrakt
This study evaluates the effectiveness of the tuned mass damper inerter (TMDI) in mitigating seismic responses of a 10-storey shear building under soil-structure interaction (SSI) and fixed base conditions. The key novelty of this work lies in employing a multi-objective fitness-dependent optimizer (MOFDO) algorithm to optimize the TMDI parameters and systematically determine the optimal inerter location across different storeys under artificial earthquake excitation. Unlike previous studies, this research explicitly incorporates SSI effects into the optimization framework, ensuring more realistic and reliable results. The findings highlight that inerter location significantly influences seismic performance, with the first storey emerging as the most effective location under diverse conditions. The optimized TMDI system consistently reduces seismic displacements, accelerations, and inter-storey drifts, with improved performance observed as soil stiffness increases. A roof-mounted configuration connecting the inerter to lower storeys proves particularly effective, ensuring robust performance across near-field and far-field earthquake scenarios. Validation against real earthquake records confirms the reliability of this framework, addressing a crucial gap in optimizing TMDI design and identifying the optimal inerter location across varying soil conditions and seismic mitigation strategies.
