W przypadku użycia tetrahydrofuranu obserwuje się tworzenie struktury, zawierającej izolowane dimery. Zastosowanie dimetoksyetanu powoduje utworzenie struktury łańcuchowej, którą można uznać za przykład polimeru koordynacyjnego.
