How to adapt Lean Six Sigma to improve performance of SMEs of manufacturing sector
PublicationThe main objective of the paper is to present the utilitarian effect of the adaptation of the Lean Six Sigma concept and its implementation in the small and medium-sized enterprises of the manufacturing sector. The original methodology was developed on the basis of research carried out in the Polish and French enterprises from 2009 to 2011. In the case of SMEs, the use of the concept of Lean Six Sigma is much less common, as...

Performance evaluation of GPS anti-spoofing system based on antenna array processing
PublicationThis article concerns the problem of detection and mitigation of spoofing attacks in Global Navigation Satellite Systems. First, background information about spoofing and its possible countermeasures is provided. Next, concept of a novel GPS anti-spoofing system based on antenna array processing is presented and implementation of prototype of this system is described. The third section outlines the performance evaluation of proposed...

Effect of manufacturing errors of the pad sliding surface on the performance of the hydrodynamic thrust bearing
PublicationIn the present study, investigation of the effect of manufacturing errors on the performance of large tilting pad thrust bearings has been performed, following a CFD-based Thermohydrodynamic analysis of a single pad. A 3D model has been generated, including the pad, the lubricant film and the corresponding part of the collar. The pad has been assumed to be deformed about the pivot point, due to thrust loading. Manufacturing errors...

Performance and Stability in H2S of SrFe0.75Mo0.25O3-δ as Electrode in Proton Ceramic Fuel Cells
PublicationThe H2S-tolerance of SrFe0.75Mo0.25O3-δ (SFM) electrodes has been investigated in symmetric proton ceramic fuel cells (PCFC) with BaZr0.8Ce0.1Y0.1O3-δ (BZCY81) electrolyte. The ionic conductivity of the electrolyte under wet reducing conditions was found to be insignificantly affected in the presence of up to 5000 ppm H2S. The fuel cell exhibited an OCV of about 0.9 V at 700 °C, which dropped to about 0.6 V and 0.4 V upon exposure...

Performance of the very high-temperature heat pump with low GWP working fluids
PublicationTraditional heat pumps are a very attractive pro-ecological solutions for a number of applications, including providing of heating or heat recovery from industrial processes. The application range of heat pumps could be greatly enlarged when the operating temperature would be increased to 130-150°C and/or the temperature lift can be increased to 50-100 K. In the paper, the very high temperature vapour-compressor based single stage...

Performance/energy aware optimization of parallel applications on GPUs under power capping
PublicationIn the paper we present an approach and results from application of the modern power capping mechanism available for NVIDIA GPUs to the bench- marks such as NAS Parallel Benchmarks BT, SP and LU as well as cublasgemm- benchmark which are widely used for assessment of high performance computing systems’ performance. Specifically, depending on the benchmarks, various power cap configurations are best for desired trade-off of performance...

Performance evaluation of unified memory and dynamic parallelism for selected parallel CUDA applications
PublicationThe aim of this paper is to evaluate performance of new CUDA mechanisms—unified memory and dynamic parallelism for real parallel applications compared to standard CUDA API versions. In order to gain insight into performance of these mechanisms, we decided to implement three applications with control and data flow typical of SPMD, geometric SPMD and divide-and-conquer schemes, which were then used for tests and experiments. Specifically,...

Binder-induced surface structure evolution effects on Li-ion battery performance
PublicationA comparative investigation on binder induced chemical and morphological evolution of Li4Ti5O12 electrodes was performed via X-ray photoemission spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and electrochemical measurements. Composite electrodes were obtained using three different binders (PAA, PVdF, and CMC) with 80:10:10 ratio of active material:carbon:binder. The electrochemical performances of the electrodes, were found to be...

Comprehensive comparison of compact UWB antenna performance by means of multi-objective optimization
PublicationAn optimization-based procedure for comprehensive performance comparison of alternative compact UWB antenna topologies is discussed. The assessment of the antenna performance is conducted with respect to the structure size and its reflection response. More specifically, the best possible tradeoffs between these two figures of merit are identified through multiobjective optimization at the level...
