Application of discriminant analysis to feature extraction.
PublicationPierwotnie uzyskiwane wektory cech są wysokowymiarowe. Redukcja wymiarowości jest często osiągana poprzez transformacje przestrzeni cech. Niniejsza praca prezentuje uogólnione kryterium Fishera i jego podstawowe własności, dyskutowana jest także możliwość wyprowadzania i oceny heurystycznych metod ekstrakcji cech. Przedstawiono również nowy sekwencyjny algorytm selekcji cech dyskryminacyjnych.

Automatic feature extraction for linear systems.

Examining Feature Vector for Phoneme Recognition
PublicationThe aim of this paper is to analyze usability of descriptors coming from music information retrieval to the phoneme analysis. The case study presented consists in several steps. First, a short overview of parameters utilized in speech analysis is given. Then, a set of time and frequency domain-based parameters is selected and discussed in the context of stop consonant acoustical characteristics. A toolbox created for this purpose...

Investigating Feature Spaces for Isolated Word Recognition
PublicationMuch attention is given by researchers to the speech processing task in automatic speech recognition (ASR) over the past decades. The study addresses the issue related to the investigation of the appropriateness of a two-dimensional representation of speech feature spaces for speech recognition tasks based on deep learning techniques. The approach combines Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and timefrequency signal representation...

Investigating Feature Spaces for Isolated Word Recognition
PublicationThe study addresses the issues related to the appropriateness of a two-dimensional representation of speech signal for speech recognition tasks based on deep learning techniques. The approach combines Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and time-frequency signal representation converted to the investigated feature spaces. In particular, waveforms and fractal dimension features of the signal were chosen for the time domain, and...

Facial feature extraction from a monochromatic picture.
PublicationFace pose determination represents an important area of research in Human Machine Interaction. In this paper, I describe a new method of extracting facial feature locations from a single monochromatic monocular camera for the purpose of estimating and tracking the three dimensional pose of human face and eye-gaze direction.

Feature Reduction Using Similarity Measure in Object Detector Learning with Haar-like Features
PublicationThis paper presents two methods of training complexity reduction by additional selection of features to check in object detector training task by AdaBoost training algorithm. In the first method, the features with weak performance at first weak classifier building process are reduced based on a list of features sorted by minimum weighted error. In the second method the feature similarity measures are used to throw away that features...

Low-Level Music Feature Vectors Embedded as Watermarks
PublicationIn this paper a method consisting in embedding low-level music feature vectors as watermarks into a musical signal is proposed. First, a review of some recent watermarking techniques and the main goals of development of digital watermarking research are provided. Then, a short overview of parameterization employed in the area of Music Information Retrieval is given. A methodology of non-blind watermarking applied to music-content...

Steering is an essential feature of non-locality in quantum theory
PublicationA physical theory is called non-local when observers can produce instantaneous effects over distant systems. Non-local theories rely on two fundamental effects: local uncertainty relations and steering of physical states at a distance. In quantum mechanics, the former one dominates the other in a well-known class of non-local games known as XOR games. In particular, optimal quantum strategies for XOR games are completely determined...

IMPEDANCE MEASUREMENT MODULE FOR GAS SENSORS WITH TEMPERATURE CONDITIONING FEATURE
PublicationThe paper presents an impedance measurement module which is aimed for gas sensor. Sensor’s heater temperature conditioning and modulation feature is available in order to allow implementation of different techniques improving selectivity and sensitivity of gas sensors. The measurement module uses three-parameter sine-fitting technique for impedance measurement. To monitor sensor temperature, the resistance of the sensor’s heater...

Audio Feature Analysis for Precise Vocalic Segments Classification in English
PublicationAn approach to identifying the most meaningful Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients representing selected allophones and vocalic segments for their classification is presented in the paper. For this purpose, experiments were carried out using algorithms such as Principal Component Analysis, Feature Importance, and Recursive Parameter Elimination. The data used were recordings made within the ALOFON corpus containing audio signal...

Tolerance Optimization of Antenna Structures by Means of Response Feature Surrogates
PublicationFabrication tolerances and other types of uncertainties, e.g., the lack of precise knowledge of material parameters, have detrimental effects on electrical and field performance of antenna systems. In the case of input characteristics these are particularly noticeable for narrow- and multi-band antennas where deviations of geometry parameters from their nominal values lead to frequency shifts of the operating frequency bands. Improving...

MP3vec: A Reusable Machine-Constructed Feature Representation for Protein Sequences
Publication—Machine Learning (ML) methods have been used with varying degrees of success on protein prediction tasks, with two inherent limitations. First, prediction performance often depends upon the features extracted from the proteins. Second, experimental data may be insufficient to construct reliable ML models. Here we introduce MP3vec, a transferable representation for protein sequences that is designed to be used specifically for sequence-to-sequence...
