Label‐free optical detection of cyclosporine in biological fluids
PublicationIn this paper, a spectroscopic method for determination of cyclosporine concentrations in biological fluids is presented. Blood plasma and hemoglobin solutions are chosen for the experiment. For various cyclosporine concentrations in blood plasma and hemoglobin, absorbance measurements in spectra range from 600 to 1100 nm are performed. The measurement results are analyzed by the use of a dedicated algorithm. The obtained data...

Interactions of positrons with atoms and molecules
PublicationThe positron is the antiparticle of the electron. It has the same mass as the electron, but opposite charge. The understanding of the interactions of positrons with normal matter, like atoms and molecules, is of interest in various scientific fields, like nuclear medicine, plasma physics and astronomy. In this talk we will give a short introduction to some theoretical methods to describe the interactions of positrons with atoms...

Does the chemical modification of Nystatin A1 affect the drug's ability to overcome the multidrug resistance of fungi?
PublicationAlthough the contemporary medicine keeps moving forward, disseminated infections caused by fungal pathogens are an emerging challenge. The dramatic rise of fungal diseases, especially the most life-threatening systemic mycoses is associated with a permanently growing number of immunodeficient patients. Undoubted difficulties in the treatment of fungal infections are caused by lack of highly effective and selective antifungal drugs,...

Influence of Diosmin Treatment on the Level of Oxidative Stress Markers in Patients with Chronic Venous Insufficiency
PublicationOxidative stress plays an important role in the pathophysiology of many human disorders, while antioxidants prevent the development of various adverse symptoms. Diosmin is a natural flavonoid applied in vascular system disorders, especially in chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), and it plays a significant part in the alleviation of CVI symptoms. Due to antioxidant activity, it also has the ability to scavenge the oxygen free radicals...

Invasive Assessment of the Myocardial Microcirculation during Beating Heart Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting
PublicationCoronary artery bypass grafting may be associated with several cardiac complications, including ischemia, acute myocardial infarction, arrhythmias, or hemodynamic instability. Accumulating evidence suggests that well-developed coronary collateral circulation may protect against adverse effects, including myocardial ischemia. Assessment of myocardial microvascular perfusion is, therefore, of great clinical interest in beating heart...

Combined anticancer therapy with imidazoacridinone analogue C‐1305 and paclitaxel in human lung and colon cancer xenografts—Modulation of tumour angiogenesis
PublicationThe acridanone derivative 5-dimethylaminopropylamino- 8- hydroxytriazoloacridinone (C-1305) has been described as a potent inhibitor of cancer cell growth. Its mechanism of action in in vitro conditions was attributed, among others, to its ability to bind and stabilize the microtubule network and subsequently exhibit its tumour- suppressive effects in synergy with paclitaxel (PTX). Therefore, the objective of the present study...
