Contextual approach to reasoning with rules
PublicationIn the paper we present a method of reasoning with Horn rules within a contextual framework. We show that by proper use of a structure of contexts we can obtain partial OWA compliance with no necessity of extending the syntax of underlying Description Logics.

Model of Rules for IT Organization Evolution
PublicationThe aim of this paper is to introduce the Model of Rules for IT Organization Evolution which shall be in compliance with the Generic IT Organization Evolution Model. Due to its general nature, a set of practical adjustments is proposed in order to adapt the Generic Model to the IT Service Management domain. Further, two sets of rules describing the evolution of the IT Service Management area are defined based on two types of rules...

Validating the Rules of Government Automation
PublicationThere is growing evidence on the benefits and risks of government automation, and how should government organizations proceed with automation when the benefits outweigh the risks. This evidence was recently consolidated into the "rules of government automation", part of the project funded by the Inter-American Development Bank. The project uncovered that the combined nature of government work and its transformation into digital...

Improving Re-rankCCP with Rules Quality Measures
PublicationRecommender Systems are software tools and techniques which aim at suggesting new items that may possibly be of interest to a user. Context-Aware Recommender Systems exploit contextual information to provide more adequate recommendations. In this paper we described a modification of an existing contextual post-filtering algorithm which uses rules-like user representation called Contextual Conditional Preferences. We extended the...

Utilization of fuzzy rules in computer character animation
PublicationThe chapter presents a method for automatic enhancement of computer character animation utilizing fuzzy inference. First the user designs a prototype version of animation, with keyframes only for important poses, roughly describing the action. Then animation is enriched with new motion phases calculated by the fuzzy inference system using descriptors given by the user. Various degrees of motion fluency and naturalness are possible...

Portable Raman spectrometer - design rules and applications
PublicationRaman spectroscopy has become more popular due to its new prospective field applications in forensic sciences, war against terrorism, environment protection and other field chemical analysis. Raman spectrometers can be miniaturised to portable devices and their price is decreasing due to development of optoelectronics components. Unfortunately, this technology has still numerous limitations that influence their design and limit...

Determination of reservoir decision rules during flood
PublicationW artykule opisano zastosowania metody sterowanego przeszukiwania losowego w zadaniu operacyjnego sterowania systemem zbiorników Nysy Kłodzkiej. Celem badań było zwiększenie dokładności uzyskiwanych wyników i efektywności obliczeń. Przetestowano kilka form reguł decyzyjnych i zaproponowano modyfikację analizowanej metody.

Semantic rules representation in controlled natural language in FluentEditor
PublicationThis paper presents a way of representation of semantic rules (SWRL) in controlled English in order to facilitate understanding the rules by humans interacting with a machine. This approach (implemented in FluentEditor) may be applied in many domains, where the understandability of the rules used to support a decision process is of great importance.

Enhancement of computer character animation utilizing fuzzy rules
W referacie...

Estimation the rhythmic salience of sound with association rules and neural networks
PublicationW referacie przedstawiono eksperymenty mające na celu automatyczne wyszukiwanie wartości rytmicznych we frazie muzycznej. W tym celu wykorzystano metody data mining i sztuczne sieci neuronowe.

Hand gesture recognition supported by fuzzy rules and Kalman filters
PublicationThe paper presents a system based on camera and multimediaprojector enabling a user to control computer applications by dynamic hand gestures. Gesture recognition methodology based on representing hand movement trajectory by motion vectors analysed using fuzzy rule-based inference is first given. For effective hand position tracking Kalman filters are employed. The system engineered is developed using J2SE and C++/OpenCV technology....

Discovering patterns of Web Page Visits from Associaton Rules Viewpoint
PublicationThe popularity of the Internet results from the almost unlimited resources of information stored in it. At the same time, Internet portals have become a widespread source of information and note very large number of visits. The list of web pages opened by users is stored in web servers' log files. Extraction of knowledge on the navigation paths of users has become carefully analyzed problem. Currently, there are a number of algorithms...

Visual Detection of People Movement Rules Violation in Crowded Indoor Scenes
PublicationThe paper presents a camera-independent framework for detecting violations of two typical people movement rules that are in force in many public transit terminals: moving in the wrong direction or across designated lanes. Low-level image processing is based on object detection with Gaussian Mixture Models and employs Kalman filters with conflict resolving extensions for the object tracking. In order to allow an effective event...

Efficient and robust quadratures for isogeometric analysis: Reduced Gauss and Gauss–Greville rules
PublicationThis work proposes two efficient quadrature rules, reduced Gauss quadrature and Gauss–Greville quadrature, for isogeometric analysis. The rules are constructed to exactly integrate one-dimensional B-spline basis functions of degree p, and continuity class C^{p−k}, where k is the highest order of derivatives appearing in the Galerkin formulation of the problem under consideration. This is the same idea we utilized in Zou et al....

AUTOMATIC LEARNING OF STRATEGY AND RULES IN CARD GAMES USING IMAGE FROM CAMERA
PublicationBelow work tries to answer a question: if it is possible to replace real human with computer system in social games. As a subject for experiments, card games were chosen, because they require a lot of player interaction (playing and taking cards), while their rules are easy to present in form of clear list of statements. Such a system, should allow real players to play without constant worrying about guiding or helping computer...

Risk characterisation of the required index R in the new probabilistic rules for damage stability

Ontologies vs. Rules — Comparison of Methods of Knowledge Representation Based on the Example of IT Services Management
PublicationThis text provides a brief overview of selected structures aimed at knowledge representation in the form of ontologies based on description logic and aims at comparing them with their counterparts based on the rule-based approach. Due to the limitations on the length of the article, only elements associated with the representation of concepts could be shown, without including roles. The formalisms of the OWL language were used...
