Enzymes of UDP-GlcNAc biosynthesis in yeast
PublicationD-glukozamina stanowi ważny składnik budulcowy głównych elementów strukturalnych grzybowej ściany komórkowej: chityny, chitozanu i mannoprotein. Inne aminocukry, takie jak D-mannozamina i D-galaktozamina, stosunkowo powszechne w komórkach wyższych organizmów eukariotycznych, rzadko występują u grzybów i są praktycznie nieobecne w komórkach drożdży i drożdżaków. Zawierający glukozaminę nukleotyd cukrowy UDP-GlcNAc jest syntezowany...

Methodological advances for selenium speciation analysis in yeast.
PublicationPrzedstawiono nowe zaawansowane metody specjacji selenu w dodatkach spożywczych.

Oligopeptide antifungals are exceptionally active against multidrug-resistant yeast
PublicationPermeazy peptydowe w komórkach drożdżowych są zdolne do transportu do wnętrza komórek oligopeptydów, zawierających w swojej strukturze niebiałkowe aminokwasy o właściwościach przeciwgrzybowych. Wśród szerokiego wachlarza tego rodzaju związków przebadanych pod względem aktywności biologicznej na wielolekoopornych komórkach drożdżowych, zaobserwowano liczna grupę, wykazującą zwiększoną aktywność względem komórek eksprymujących transportery...

N-phosphonomethylglycine utilization by the psychrotolerant yeast Solicoccozyma terricola M 3.1.4.
PublicationSolicoccozymaterricolaM 3.1.4., the yeast strain isolated from soil sample from blueberry cultivation in MiedzyrzecPodlaski in Poland, is capable to split of phosphorus to nitrogen and nitrogen to carbon bonds inN-phosphono-methylglycine (PMG, glyphosate). The biodegradation process proceeds in the phosphate-independent manner. Itis the first example of a psychrotolerant yeast strain able to degrade PMGviaCeN bond cleavage accompanied...

Targeting yeast topoisomerase II by imidazo and triazoloacridinone derivatives resulting in their antifungal activity
PublicationFungal pathogens are considered as serious factors for deadly diseases and are a case of medical concern. Invasive fungal infections also complicate the clinical course of COVID-19, leading to a significant increase in mortality. Furthermore, fungal strains' multidrug resistance has increased the demand for antifungals with a different mechanism of action. The present study aimed to identify antifungal compounds targeting yeast...

Enhanced susceptibility to antifungal oligopeptides in yeast strains overexpressing ABC multidrug efflux pumps

Study on a polish peat bog “Rucianka” as a source of yeast strains capable of effective phenol biodegradation
PublicationPhenol is one of the most widely distributed environmental pollutants which can be found in wastewaters and industrial effluents. Due to its toxicity and resistance to self-degradation, it could become even lethal for humans and animals. The treatment of this toxic compound is focused on psychical–chemical methods, although biological treatment of phenol is preferable for economic aspects related to relatively...

Antifungal Activity of Capridine β as a Consequence of Its Biotransformation into Metabolite Affecting Yeast Topoisomerase II Activity
PublicationIn the last few years, increasing importance is attached to problems caused by fungal pathogens. Current methods of preventing fungal infections remain unsatisfactory. There are several antifungal compounds whichare highly effective in some cases, however, they have limitations in usage: Nephrotoxicity and other adverse effects. In addition, the frequent use of available fungistatic drugs promotes drug resistance....

Evaluation of possibilities in identification and susceptibility testing for Candida glabrata clinical isolates with the Integral System Yeast Plus (ISYP)
PublicationThe aim of this study was to evaluate possibilities of correct identification and susceptibility testing of C. glabrata clinical isolates with Integral System Yeast Plus (ISYP). For species identification, as the reference method, API Candida test and species-specific PCR reactions were used. The potential of antifungal susceptibility testing by the ISYP test was compared with the Sensititre Yeast One. Whilst the reference methods...
