Hydrogen migration in formation of NH(A3Π) radicals in photodissociations of isoxazole and pyridine molecules
PublicationIn the present study, the H atom migration was observed in the photodissociation processes of the isoxazole and pyridine molecules in the gas-phase, applying the photon-induced fluorescence spectroscopy (PIFS).

Formation of CN (B2∑+) radicals in the vacuum-ultraviolet photodissociation of pyridine and pyrimidine molecules
PublicationFormation of the excited CN(B2∑+) free radicals in the photodissociation of pyridine (C5H5N) and pyrimidine (C4H4N2) molecules was investigated over the energy ranges 16–27 and 14.7–25 eV, respectively. Photon-induced fluorescence spectroscopy was applied to detect the vibrationally and rotationally excited CN radicals by recording the B2∑+→X2∑+ emission bands (violet system). The measured dissociation yield curves demonstrate...

Formation enthalpies of LaLn׳O3 (Ln׳=Ho, Er, Tm and Yb) interlanthanide perovskites
PublicationHigh-temperature oxide melt solution calorimetry using 3Na2O·MoO3 at 802 °C was performed for interlanthanide perovskites LaLn׳O3 (Ln׳=Ho, Er, Tm and Yb) and lanthanide oxides (La2O3, Ho2O3, Er2O3, Tm2O3 and Yb2O3). The enthalpies of formation of these interlanthanide perovskites from binary lanthanide oxides at room temperature (25 °C) were determined to be −8.3±3.4 kJ/mol for LaHoO3, −9.9±3.0 kJ/mol for LaErO3, −10.8±2.7 kJ/mol...

Butyrylcholinesterase signal sequence self-aggregates and enhances amyloid fibril formation in vitro
PublicationAlzheimer’s disease (AD) pathogenesis has been attributed to extracellular aggregates of amyloid β (Aβ) plaques and neurofibrillary tangles in the human brain. It has been reported that butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) also accumulates in the brain Aβ plaques in AD. We have previously found that the BChE substitution in 5′UTR caused an in-frame N-terminal extension of 41 amino acids of the BChE signal peptide. The resultant variant...

Highly Active TiO2 Microspheres Formation in the Presence of Ethylammonium Nitrate Ionic Liquid
PublicationSpherical microparticles of TiO2 were synthesized by the ionic liquid-assisted solvothermal method at different reaction times (3, 6, 12, and 24 h). The properties of the prepared photocatalysts were investigated by means of UV-VIS diffuse-reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area measurements, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy...

Study of the formation of calcareous deposits on cathodically protected steel in Baltic sea water
PublicationPurpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate whether the sedimentation of calcareous deposits occurs on cathodically protected steel in Baltic sea water. Design/methodology/approach – Steel electrodes were cathodically polarized in natural Baltic sea water at potential þ0.150 V vs Zn electrode in potentiostatic mode. During exposure chronoamperometric measurements were carried out. After the exposure, the electrode’s surface...

Formation of the hollow nanopillar arrays through the laser-induced transformation of TiO2 nanotubes
PublicationIn the following article, we present a simple, two-step method of creating spaced, hollow nanopillars, from the titania nanotube arrays via pulsed laser-treatment. Due to the high ordering of the structure, the prepared material exhibits photonic properties, which has been shown to increase the overall photoefficiency. The optical and morphological changes in the titania nanotubes after pulsed laser-treatment with 532, 355, and...

Preparation and Characterization of Defective TiO2. The Effect of the Reaction Environment on Titanium Vacancies Formation
PublicationAmong various methods of improving visible light activity of titanium(IV) oxide, the formation of defects and vacancies (both oxygen and titanium) in the crystal structure of TiO2 is an easy and relatively cheap alternative to improve the photocatalytic activity. In the presented work, visible light active defective TiO2 was obtained by the hydrothermal reaction in the presence of three different oxidizing agents: HIO3, H2O2, and...

Can sodium 1-alkylsulfonates participate in the sodium dodecyl sulfate micelle formation?
PublicationThe aggregation behavior of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) was studied in an aqueous solution in the presence of increasing concentrations of selected sodium 1-alkylsulfonates, namely sodium 1-octanesulfonate, sodium 1-decanesulfonate, and sodium 1-dodecanesufonate. The critical micelle concentration (CMC) of SDS was determined by conductivity and fluorescence intensity measurements. The steady-state fluorescence quenching experiments...

Experimental investigations and damage growth modeling of EN‐AW 2024 aluminum alloy under LCF loading accounting creep pre‐deformation
PublicationThis article presents the results of experimental tests of creep rupture and of low-cycle fatigue (LCF) of EN-AW 2024 aluminum alloy devoid of damage and having preliminary damage. The preliminary damage was dealt in the process of creep at elevated temperature 100C, 200C, and 300C until achievement of two different strain values at each temperature. Samples with preliminary damage were subjected to fatigue tests at room temperature....

Image-based numerical modeling of the tensile deformation behavior and mechanical properties of additive manufactured Ti–6Al–4V diamond lattice structures
PublicationThis work concerns the numerical modeling of the deformation process and mechanical properties of structures obtained by the additive method laser power bed fusion (LPBF). The investigation uses diamond structures of Ti–6Al–4V titanium implantation alloy with various relative densities. To model the process of tensile deformation of the materials, geometric models were used, mapping the realistic shape of the examined structures....
