The Most Valuable Global Brands and Condition of Economies: a Spatial Approach
PublicationResearch background: Brands are considered to be the most valuable asset of a company. Some of them achieve spectacular global results. The significance of global brands is proved by the fact that their value is often greater than the sum of all company’s net assets. Purpose of the article: The aim of this article is to highlight that brand value does not only create company’s value but also leverages economies. We claim that even though...

On energy, exergy, and environmental aspects of a combined gas-steam cycle for heat and power generation undergoing a process of retrofitting by steam injection
PublicationThe paper presents a study of retrofitting of a combined heat and power (CHP) plant aimed to increase the electric to heating power ratio. The modification would involve diverting part of the steam to the gas turbine, instead of letting it go to the steam turbine, using injection technique into a combustion chamber. Therefore, two potential retrofitting approaches are analyzed: steam injection gas turbine (STIGT) and combined steam...

Funkcjonowanie zespołów napędu hydraulicznego maszyn w niskich temperaturach otoczenia
PublicationW pracy przedstawiono cztery warianty klasyfikacji rozruchów oziębionego napędu hydraulicznego. Pierwsza sytuacja dotyczy zagadnienia, w którym wszystkie zespoły układu napędowego wraz z olejem mają taką samą niską temperaturę podczas rozruchu. Pozostałe warianty odnoszą się do rozruchu w warunkach szoku termicznego wywołanych zasilaniem ciepłym czynnikiem roboczym oziębionych zespołów hydraulicznych. Rozruch zespołów...

City as a product. Architecture as an Economic Instrument. Are Global Cities People-Friendly Places?
PublicationWhile spending time in our everyday urban environment do we ever think how particular architecture influences the economic value of that space? Space has its measurable financial value. From the economic point of view a place can be treated as a product that fights for appearing in tourists’ and investors’ consciousnesses. Space - treated as an object of demand and supply - becomes an element in a marketing game. To reach its...

The estrogenicity of wastewater samples.
Open Research DataThe principle of operation of the kit is based on the fact that the tested sample with endocrine activity (containing compounds capable of binding to the human estrogen receptor α, hERα) releases the fluorescently labeled ligand (FluormoneTM ES2) from the receptor-ligand complex, which results in a reduction of the polarization value fluorescence. The...

Online brand communities’ contribution to digital business models
PublicationAbstract Purpose – There is limited research examining social drivers and mediators of online brand community identification in the context of business models development. This study aims to identify them behind the social mechanisms and present essential factors which should be applied in business models to foster value co-creation. Design/methodology/approach – Data were collected from a convenience sample of 712 cases gathered among...

Analysis of wave propagation in a bolted steel joint
PublicationThe paper presents results of numerical and experimental investigations of elastic wave propagation in a bolted single-lap joint. The research was carried out for both symmetric and antisymmetric Lamb wave modes. In experimental studies the PZT transducers were used to excite and register wave propagation signals. The controlled value of the torque during measurements was ensured by the use of high precision torque wrenches. Numerical...

The energy consumption during the birch tree sap concentration process using the reverse osmosis system
PublicationBirch tree sap was concentrated by mens of the reversed osmosis technique. The energy consumption in a small-scale pilot apparatus was estimated. The threshold value for the water removal above which the specific energy consumption significantly increased was identified. Below the threshold value the reversed osmosis had low energy demand and could be an attractive method for the production of birch tree sap-based beverages.

Radio Channel Measurements in Body-to-Body Communications in Different Scenarios
PublicationThis paper presents body-to-body radio channel measurements at the 2.45 GHz band, for different body motion scenarios and on-body antenna placements, and both indoor and outdoor environments. Measurement equipment, investigated scenarios and considered environments are described, an initial analysis of results being presented. The mean path loss and the standard deviation depend on the mutual location of transmitting and receiving...

Elementary analysis and energetic potential of the municipal sewage sludges from the Gdańsk and Kościerzyna WWTPs
PublicationThis paper aims to present municipal sewage sludge (MSS) elementary analysis and energetic potential based on measurement of heat of combustion (higher heating value HHV) and calculation of calorific values (lower heating value LHV). The analysis takes into the consideration water content in sewage sludge, at different utilization stages, in wastewater treatment plants in Gdańsk Wschód and Kościerzyna – Pomeranian Voivodeship....

Knowledge Management
e-Learning CoursesBrand knowledge, customer knowledge, relations knowledge, market knowledge, „know how” etc., are intangible assets with great value to the organization today, and to leave these assets unmanaged would seem to be foolish in the extreme. The aim of the course is to explain: who/ why/ how to manage knowledge effectively. Welcome & GOOD LUCK :) Wioleta Kucharska

Curve Curvature Analysis of a Grain Trajectories in Variable Honing of Cylindrical Holes of Thin Wall Cylinder Liners as a Honing Process Optimization Strategy
PublicationThe main problem of honing of thin wall cylinder liners is a thermal distortion of honed holes. The higher the value of the temperature of the honed workpiece, the greater its holes deformation. The paper presents a method of reducing the temperature occurring in the honing process as a result of the application of a variable honing kinematics conditions with particular emphasis on the analysis of the effect of the value of the...
