Modeling of light propagation in canine gingiva
PublicationThis study is a preliminary evaluation of the effectivenes of laser-based surgery of maxillary and mandibular bone in dogs. Current methods of gingivial surgery in dogs require the use of general anaesthesia.1, 2 The proposed methods of laser surgery can be performed on conscious dogs, which substantially reduces the associated risks. Two choices of lasers, Nd:YAG and a 930 nm semiconductor lasers were evaluated. The former is...

TRNA-Leu (UUR) gene haplotypes observed in canine mammary gland tumours and its deleterious effect assessment according to the comparative analysis with TRNL1 human gene
Open Research DataThe aetiology and pathogenesis of many canine tumours are likely to be similar to cancers found in humans. This study aimed to present a plausible link between changes in tRNA-Leu (UUR) gene and the carcinogenesis process in dogs with mammary gland tumours. The whole mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) isolated from blood and tumour tissues of 13 dogs with malig-nant...

MACHINE LEARNING SYSTEM FOR AUTOMATED BLOOD SMEAR ANALYSIS
PublicationIn this paper the authors propose a decision support system for automatic blood smear analysis based on microscopic images. The images are pre-processed in order to remove irrelevant elements and to enhance the most important ones - the healthy blood cells (erythrocytes) and the pathologic (echinocytes). The separated blood cells are analyzed in terms of their most important features by the eigenfaces method. The features are the...

Mechanical Behavior of Bi-Layer and Dispersion Coatings Composed of Several Nanostructures on Ti13Nb13Zr Alloy
PublicationTitanium implants are commonly used because of several advantages, but their surface modification is necessary to enhance bioactivity. Recently, their surface coatings were developed to induce local antibacterial properties. The aim of this research was to investigate and compare me-chanical properties of three coatings: multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), bi-layer composed of an inner MWCNTs layer and an outer TiO2 layer, and...

Molecular differences in mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) genomes of dogs with malignant mammary tumours
Open Research DataThe aim of this study was to determine molecular defects in mitochondrial DNA with the use of large-scale genome analysis in malignant canine mammary gland tumours and indicate whether these changes were linked with the carcinogenesis process. With the use of the NGS technology, we sequenced 27 samples of mtDNA isolated from blood and tumours obtained...

D-loop sequences retrieved from Canis lupus familiaris mitochondrial genome
Open Research DataCanine mitochondrial genome is built of 16727 bp. Non-coding control region (mtCR), called also D-loop, begins with 15458 nucleotide and ends with 16727 nucleotide. The length of this fragment is 1270 bp (Kim et al., 1998). D-loop region is responsible for replication and transcription of mitochondrial DNA. Mutations that occur within it may cause irregularity...
