Abstrakt
Amides belong to the most important carboxylic acid derivatives. They are constituents of natural compounds like peptides and proteins. They found applications in many branches of science and industry, especially in pharmaceutical and polymer science. Conventional procedures for amide preparation involve reaction between amine and carboxylic acid or their more active derivatives such as acid chlorides, acid anhydrides or esters. Although thermal heating provides good reaction yield, many drawbacks have been noticed. In the last decade much attention has been paid to microwave-assisted protocols. Application of microwave irradiation (MW) in the organic synthesis has brought advantages such as: shorter reaction time, higher yields and less side products formation. This approach proved to be efficient even under solvent-free conditions, what is extremely important from economic as well as environmental standpoints. The aim of the following article is a comparison between amides syntheses carried out under conventional and microwave conditions.
