Fast implementation of FDTD-compatible green's function on multicore processor
PublikacjaIn this letter, numerically efficient implementation of the finite-difference time domain (FDTD)-compatible Green's function on a multicore processor is presented. Recently, closed-form expression of this discrete Green's function (DGF) was derived, which simplifies its application in the FDTD simulations of radiation and scattering problems. Unfortunately, the new DGF expression involves binomial coefficients, whose computations...

Structure and thermal expansion of liquid bismuth
PublikacjaExperimental structural data for liquid Bi were used for estimation of the main structure parameters as well as the thermal expansion coefficient both in supercooled and superheated temperature ranges. It was shown that the equilibrium melt had a positive thermal expansion coefficient within a temperature range upon melting and a negative one at higher temperatures. The former was related to structure changes upon melting, whereas...

Method of determining the degree of liquid aeration in a variable capacity displacement pump
PublikacjaThe Author concludes, that there is a possibility of determining a concrete value of the liquid aeration coefficient during the pump operation by finding such value of coefficient with which the increase of torque of mechanical losses is proportional to the indicated torque determined with a fixed value of increase of pressure in the pump working chambers. The fixed value of increase of pressure assumed in searching the liquid...

Optimally regularized local basis function approach to identification of time-varying systems
PublikacjaAccurate identification of stochastic systems with fast-varying parameters is a challenging task which cannot be accomplished using model-free estimation methods, such as weighted least squares, which assume only that system coefficients can be regarded as locally constant. The current state of the art solutions are based on the assumption that system parameters can be locally approximated by a linear combination of appropriately...

The importance of the shape of the protein-water interface of a kinesin motor domain for dynamics of the surface atoms of the protein
PublikacjaSingle kinesin motor domain immersed in water has been investigated using molecular dynamics. It has been found that local properties of water in solvation shell change along with the nature of neighboring protein surface. However, a detailed analysis leads to the conclusion that the geometrical features of hydrogen bonds and overall structure of kinesin hydration water is not very different from bulk water. The local values of...

Rapid antenna design optimization using shape-preserving response prediction
PublikacjaAn approach to rapid optimization of antennas using the shape-preserving response-prediction (SPRP) technique and coarsediscretization electromagnetic (EM) simulations (as a low-fidelity model) is presented. SPRP allows us to estimate the response of the high-fidelity EM antenna model, e.g., its reflection coefficient versus frequency, using the properly selected set of so-called characteristic points of the low-fidelity model...

Bifractal receiver operating characteristic curves: a formula for generating receiver operating characteristic curves in credit-scoring contexts
PublikacjaThis paper formulates a mathematical model for generating receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves without underlying data. Credit scoring practitioners know that the Gini coefficient usually drops if it is only calculated on cases above the cutoff. This fact is not a mathematical necessity, however, as it is theoretically possible to get an ROC curve that keeps the same Gini coefficient no matter how big a share of lowest...

Structural and Dynamic Properties of Water within the Solvation Layer around Various Conformations of the Glycine-based Polypeptide
PublikacjaSeveral conformations of the solvated glycine-based polypeptides were investigated using molecular dynamics simulations. Some properties of water in the neighboring space around these molecules were investigated. It was found that water forms a well-defined layer—the first solvation shell—around the peptide molecule, and thickness of this layer is independent of the peptide structure and is equal to approximately 0.28 nm. Within...

Mathematical model defining volumetric losses of hydraulic oil compression in a variable capacity displacement pump
PublikacjaThe objective of the work is to develop the capability of evaluating the volumetric losses of hydraulic oil compression in the working chambers of high pressure variable capacity displacement pump. Volumetric losses of oil compression must be determined as functions of the same parameters, which the volumetric losses due to leakage, resulting from the quality of design solution of the pump, are evaluated as dependent on and also...

Analytical solution of non-stationary heat conduction problem for two sliding layers with time-dependent friction conditions
PublikacjaIn this article we conduct an overview of various types of thermal contact conditions at the sliding interface. We formulate a problem of non-stationary heat conduction in two sliding layers with generalized thermal contact conditions allowing for dependence of the heat-generation coefficient and contact heat transfer coefficient on time. We then derive an analytical solution of the problem by constructing a special coordinate...

Experimental validation of pressure drop models during flow boiling of R134a – effect of flow acceleration and entrainment
PublikacjaA crucial step to assure proficient work of power and process apparatus is their proper design. A wide array of those devices operates within boiling or condensation of the working fluid to benefit from high heat transfer rates. Two-phase flows are associated with high heat transfer coefficients because of the latent heat of evaporation and high turbulence level between the liquid and the solid surface. Predicting heat transfer...

Determination of Mechanical Energy Loss in Steady Flow by Means of Dissipation Power
PublikacjaWhen systems of simple geometry like pipes or regular channels are considered, the mechan- ical energy loss of the fluid flow can be expressed by local and longitudinal empirical energy loss coefficients. However, in the case of large spatially distributed objects, there are no simple approaches to this task. In practice, general recommendations addressing different types of objects are used, but they usually provide very coarse...

Finite element/mode-matching analysis of ferrite/dielectric line junctions of arbitrary cross-section
PublikacjaThis paper is focused on the analysis of line junctions obtained as a cascade of dielectric and ferrite guides of arbitrary cross-section. The main application of such structures is nonreciprocal devices such as isolators, circulators, or phase shifters. The efficient finite element/mode-matching approach is proposed to the analysis of such structures. In this approach, thefiniteelementmethod is applied todetermine propagation...

Low-Cost Surrogate Models for Microwave Filters
PublikacjaA novel low-cost kriging-based multivariable parametric macromodeling technique for microwave filters is presented. Kriging is used to model both the residues and poles of a microwave filter's reflection coefficient, and the zeros of the transmission coefficient. The proposed residue-pole-zero (RPZ) technique is demonstrated to efficiently model a high dimensional (8D) microwave filter with pseudoelliptic characteristics.
