3D Sound Intensity Measurement Around Organ Pipes Using Acoustic Vector Sensors
PublicationThe aim of the presented paper was to obtain and visualize sound intensity distribution of radiated acoustic energy around the organ pipes. The experimental setup consisted of the multichannel acoustic vector sensor and the specialized Cartesian robot. Measurements were performed in free field with spatial resolution of 0.1 [m]. Two organ pipes, i.e. wooden and metal were measured during the ex-periment. The organ pipes were activated...

A commonly-accessible toolchain for live streaming music events with higher-order ambisonic audio and 4k 360 vision
PublicationAn immersive live stream is especially interesting in the ongoing development of telepresence tools, especially in the virtual reality (VR) or mixed reality (MR) domain. This paper explores the remote and immersive way of enabling telepresence for the audience to high-fidelity music performance using freely-available and easily-accessible tools. A functional VR live-streaming toolchain, comprising 360 vision and higher-order ambisonic...

A Device for Measuring Auditory Brainstem Responses to Audio
PublicationStandard ABR devices use clicks and tone bursts to assess subjects’ hearing in an objective way. A new device was developed that extends the functionality of a standard ABR audiometer by collecting and analyzing auditory brainstem responses (ABR). The developed accessory allows for the use of complex sounds (e.g., speech or music excerpts) as stimuli. Therefore, it is possible to find out how efficiently different types of sounds...

A Novel Method for Intelligibility Assessment of Nonlinearly Processed Speech in Spaces Characterized by Long Reverberation Times
PublicationObjective assessment of speech intelligibility is a complex task that requires taking into account a number of factors such as different perception of each speech sub-bands by the human hearing sense or different physical properties of each frequency band of a speech signal. Currently, the state-of-the-art method used for assessing the quality of speech transmission is the speech transmission index (STI). It is a standardized way...

Algoritmically improved microwave radar monitors breathing more acurrate than sensorized belt
PublicationThis paper describes a novel way to measure, process, analyze, and compare respiratory signals acquired by two types of devices: a wearable sensorized belt and a microwave radar-based sensor. Both devices provide breathing rate readouts. First, the background research is presented. Then, the underlying principles and working parameters of the microwave radar-based sensor, a contactless device for monitoring breathing, are described....

Broadening the scope of measurement and analysis of vibrations of an organ pipe employing intensity probe, simulations, and highspeed camera
PublicationThis paper shows an integrated approach to measure, analyze, and model phenomena occurring in an organ pipe driven by pressurized air. The aim of this paper is two-fold, i.e., to measure the pressure signal and the intensity field around the mouth by means of an intensity probe and to visualize and observe the motion of the air jet, which represents the excitation mechanism of the system. This is realized through two techniques,...

Creating a Remote Choir Performance Recording Based on an Ambisonic Approach
PublicationThe aim of this paper is three-fold. First, the basics of binaural and ambisonic techniques are briefly presented. Then, details related to audio-visual recordings of a remote performance of the Academic Choir of the Gdańsk University of Technology are shown. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, artists had a choice, namely, to stay at home and not perform or stay at home and perform. In fact, staying at home brought in the possibility...

Acoustic Sensing Analytics Applied to Speech in Reverberation Conditions
PublicationThe paper aims to discuss a case study of sensing analytics and technology in acoustics when applied to reverberation conditions. Reverberation is one of the issues that makes speech in indoor spaces challenging to understand. This problem is particularly critical in large spaces with few absorbing or diffusing surfaces. One of the natural remedies to improve speech intelligibility in such conditions may be achieved through speaking...

Ambisoniczna mapa wybranych miejsc w Trójmieście z obrazem 360°

An approach to determining tinnitus acoustical characteristic
PublicationFor many treatment methods, accurate estimation of Tinnitus(ringing in ears) concerning sound type, level, and bandwidth or frequency is inevitable. The proposed way of obtaining Tinnitus parameters is described in this paper. The method employs sound synthesis, aimed at obtaining sound which is closest to perceived Tinnitus. The proposed method assumes running a designed application on a multimedia PC provided with a special graphical...

Application of hybrid signals processors to speech and hearing aids

Auditory-visual attention stimulator
PublicationNew approach to lateralization irregularities formation was proposed. The emphasis is put on the relationship between visual and auditory attention stimulation. In this approach hearing is stimulated using time scale modified speech and sight is stimulated by rendering the text of the currently heard speech. Moreover, displayed text is modified using several techniques i.e. zooming, highlighting etc. In the experimental part of...

Badanie jakości transmisji mowy w sieciach IP.
PublicationPraca zawiera opis eksperymentu mającego na celu zbadanie relacji pomiędzy oceną subiektywną sygnału mowy a jakością transmisji tego sygnału w kanale telekomunikacyjnym. Zrealizowano symulację transmisji pakietowej sygnału mowy w sieci Internet (VoIP). Wykonano serię testów odsłuchowych opartych na listach logatomowych i odpowiednio dobranych zdaniach. Do interpretacji wyników zastosowano analizę statystyczną.
