Homoclinic solutions for a class of autonomous second order Hamiltonian systems with a superquadratic potential
PublicationW niniejszej pracy udowodniliśmy istnienie nietrywialnego rozwiązania homoklinicznego dla autonomicznych układów Hamiltona drugiego rzędu z nadkwadratowym potencjałem. Orbitę homokliniczną otrzymaliśmy jako słabą granicę ciągu punktów prawie krytycznych, stosując zasadę minimaks do odpowiedniego funkcjonału akcji oraz prosty argument typu ''concentration-compactness''.

About nutrient liquid flow between potential flow and cartilage surface in bioreactor
PublicationW niniejszej pracy wyznaczony został przepływ cieczy odżywczej o właściwościach nienewtonowskich w cienkiej warstwie granicznej w pobliżu powierzchni komórek chrząstki (chondrocytu) podczas hodowli w bioreaktorze. Ruch cieczy w warstwie granicznej jest wywołany wydatkiem przepływu dostarczanej cieczy do bioreaktora. Ponadto prędkość przepływu cieczy w warstwie granicznej wokół hodowanych komórek chrząstki stawowej jest uzależniona...

Mercury contamination, a potential threat to the globally endangered aquatic warbler Acrocephalus paludicola
PublicationMercury (Hg) contamination is considered a global concern for humans and wildlife, and although the number of studies dealing with that issue continues to increase, some taxonomic groups such as small passerine birds are largely understudied. In this paper, concentration of mercury in the aquatic warbler (Acrocephalus paludicola) feathers, a globally threatened passerine species, was examined. The concentration differences between...

Effect Of Resveratrol And Quercetin On Telomerase Regulation In Cancer Cells And Their Anti-Cancer Potential
PublicationTelomeres and telomerase are nowadays one on targets for anticancer therapy. Telomerase is expressed in ~90% of human cancer cell lines and tumor specimens, whereas its enzymatic activity is not detectable in most human somatic cells. Was found that some dietary compounds can modulate telomerase activity in cancer cells. This review summarizes the current knowledge about the effects of resveratrol and quercetin on telomerase regulation...

Analysing the potential for application of the phase shift method in endoscopic examination of marine engines
PublicationThe article presents theoretical principles of image processing in digital endoscopy which makes use of a miniaturised spectral scanner “PhaseProbe” designed by General Inspection Technologies LP, the producer of the measuring videoendoscope Everest XLG3. The technology of optoelectronic 3D mapping of the examined surface, which consists in measuring the phase shift between the emitted and reflected light waves, is briefly described....

SYNTHESIS OF PHOSPHORUS TACRINE ANALOGUES AS A NEW POTENTIAL ANTI-ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE AGENTS
PublicationA series of novel phosphorus tacrine derivatives was obtained in three steps, including synthesis of 9-chlorotacrine, connection of 9-chlorotacrine with hexamethylenediamine, 1,8-diaminooctane and 1,12-diaminododecane linkers and reaction of obtained tacrine diamine analogues with corresponding acid ester to give nine tacrine organophosphorus compounds. All of the obtained final structures were characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR,...

Batracylina (BAT) - potencjalny lek przeciwnowotworowy. Batracylin (BAT) - potential of anticancer drug
PublicationOpisano działanie potencjalnego leku przeciwnowotworowego - batracyliny(BAT).

The synthesis of 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecanes with acetylsalicylic side arm as potential cobalt(II) fluorophores.
Otrzymane ligandy zbadano spektrofotometrycznie. Obydwa ligandy oddziaływują selektywnie z jonami Co(II), tworząc kompleksy o stechiometrii 2:1 i 1:1 (ligand:metal).

Evaluation and cellular responses of modulators of TRF1/TRF2 protein’s function as potential anticancer drugs interfering with telomeric shelterin’s function
PublicationA number of proteins that interact with telomeres have been identified in human cells, indicating the high plasticity of human nucleoprotein complex organization. The most important complex is the "shelterin" complex, which consists of six proteins: TRF1, TRF2, TIN2, POT1, TPP1. The TRF1 and TRF2 directly bind to telomeric double-stranded DNA and the TIN2 protein. The TIN2 protein also binds to the TPP1 protein, stabilizing the...

Review of cigars and cigar-type products as potential sources of consumer exposure to heavy metals
PublicationThe popularity of cigars, growing since 1993, has not gone hand in hand with the increased interest of researchers in these products. Although the literature widely describes the harmfulness of tobacco and the content of toxic substances in tobacco products, the topic is often treated selectively as relating primarily to cigarettes and rarely extends to other products of the broadly defined tobacco industry. However, there is no...

Task Scheduling – Review of Algorithms and Analysis of Potential Use in a Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant
PublicationThe idea of task scheduling is to increase the efficiency of a system by minimising wasted time, evenly loading machines, or maximising the throughput of machines. Moreover, the use of appropriate scheduling algorithms often leads to a reduction in the energy costs of the process. Task scheduling problems are found in a variety of industrial areas, and their scale changes significantly depending on the problem. This review shows...

Potential degradation of norfloxacin using UV-C/Fe2+/peroxides-based oxidative pathways
PublicationThe removal of norfloxacin (NOR), a widely used pharmaceutical and emerging water pollutant, was studied using UV-C and Fe2+ catalyzed peroxides-based oxidative processes (e.g., UV-C/Fe2+/H2O2, UV-C/Fe2+/S2O82− and UV-C/Fe2+/HSO5−) and compared with UV-C and UV-C/Fe2+. The UV-C and UV-C/Fe2+ degraded NOR to 38 and 55 %. However, use of peroxides, i.e., H2O2, S2O82−, HSO5− with UV-C and UV-C/Fe2+ promoted NOR %degradation to 75,...
