Morse cohomology in a Hilbert space via the Conley index
PublicationThe main theorem of this paper states that Morse cohomology groups in a Hilbert space are isomorphic to the cohomological Conley index. It is also shown that calculating the cohomological Conley index does not require finite-dimensional approximations of the vector field. Further directions are discussed.

Do new EU members have any chance of earning as much as Westerns do?
PublicationThis article examines the wage dispersion in the European Union in the last ten years (1996-2006). The research is motivated by the fact that New Members States (NMS) expected that wage convergence would occurred after their accession to the EU. At the same time Old Member States (OMS) have been increasingly concerned with the possibility that the EU enlargement could influence their local labor markets and wages through new channels...

Magnetizability of the relativistic hydrogenlike atom in an arbitrary discrete energy eigenstate: Application of the Sturmian expansion of the generalized Dirac-Coulomb Green function
PublicationThe Sturmian expansion of the generalized Dirac--Coulomb Green function [R.\/~Szmytkowski, J.\ Phys.\ B 30 (1997) 825; erratum 30 (1997) 2747] is exploited to derive a closed-form expression for the magnetizability of an arbitrary discrete state of the relativistic one-electron atom with a point-like, spinless and motionless nucleus of charge $Ze$. The result has the form of a double finite sum involving the generalized hypergeometric...

Nuclear magnetic shielding constants of Dirac one-electron atoms in some low-lying discrete energy eigenstates
PublicationWe present tabulated data for the nuclear magnetic shielding constants (σ) of the Dirac one-electron atoms with a pointlike, motionless and spinless nucleus of charge Ze. Utilizing the exact general analytical formula for σ derived by us (Stefańska, 2016) valid for an arbitrary discrete energy eigenstate, we have computed the numerical values of the magnetic shielding factors for the ground state and for the first and the second...

Charge-based deep level transient spectroscopy of B-doped and undoped polycrystalline diamond films
PublicationThe undoped and B-doped polycrystalline diamond thin film was synthesized by hot filament chemical vapor deposition and microwave plasma, respectively. The structural characterization was performed by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy. The electrical properties of synthesized diamond layer were characterized by dc-conductivity method and charge deep level transient spectroscopy. The B-doped...

Share of enterprises' expenditure in total R&D expenditure (2009-2011)
Open Research DataThe countries with the highest share of enterprises in R&D expenditure are: Finåandia (67%), Germany (65.6%) and Slovenia (61.2%). On the opposite pole are Cyprus (11%), Bulgaria (16.9%) and Latvia (24.8%). The average result for the Member States in 2011 was 54.9%. It is worth noting that the countries that significantly increased the ratio of...

Dziwaczne i osobliwe. Zjawiska wokół książki Marka Fishera
PublicationIn my review, I discuss the Polish translation of Mark Fisher’s The weird and the eerie, published by Słowo/obraz terytoria. Originally released in December 2016, Fisher’s collection of thirteen essays explores cul-tural texts by figures like Howard P. Lovecraft, David Lynch and Joy Division. Fisher employs a theoretical framework heavily influenced by post-Lacanian, post-Derridean and Deleuzean concepts. The translation, of...

Fractographical quantitative analysis of EN-AW 2024 aluminum alloy after creep pre-strain and LCF loading
PublicationThis paper explores the applicability of a new damage parameter combining both fracture surface topography and loading features to estimate the fatigue lifetime under creep pre-strain and low-cycle fatigue loading. Fractures of EN-AW 2024 aluminum alloy caused by mixed creep and low-cycle fatigue loading are experimentally characterized and quantified via surface topography analysis. The specimens were preliminary damaged in a...

Limiting distribution of the three-state semi-Markov model of technical state transitions of ship power plant machines and its applicability in operational decision-making.
PublicationThe article presents the three-state semi-Markov model of the process {W(t): t 0} of state transitions of a ship power plant machine, with the following interpretation of these states: s1 – state of full serviceability, s2 – state of partial serviceability, and s3 – state of unserviceability. These states are precisely defined for the ship main engine (ME). A hypothesis is proposed which explains the possibility of application...

Conceptualizing Digital Government for Social Solidarity
PublicationThis paper motivates the study of the impact of digital government on social solidarity; builds a conceptual foundation with four types of solidarity – group-based, compassionate, instrumental and emphatic; relates digital government to the type and moment – pre-technological, technological and post-technological of solidarity; and puts forward the type-moment frame to study how digital government is supporting social solidarity...

Unmasking the COVID-19 Pandemic Prevention Gains: Excess Mortality Reversal in 2022
PublicationObjectives: The purpose of this study was to assess the long-term effectiveness of COVID-19 pandemic prevention measures in saving lives after European governments began to lift restrictions. Study design: Excess mortality interrupted time series. Methods: Country-level weekly data on deaths were fitted to the Poisson mixed linear model to estimate excess deaths. Based on this estimate, the percentage of excess deaths...

Remediation of soils on municipal rendering plant territories using Miscanthus × giganteus
PublicationPhytoremediation, as a cost-effective, highly efficient, environmentally friendly, and green approach, gained attention to the removal of metals, including heavy metals, from contaminated soils. The toxic nature of heavy metals can have an adverse effect on human health and the ecosystem, and their removal remains a worldwide problem. Therefore, in this study, a field experiment was carried out to evaluate the potential of Miscanthus × giganteus...

Transformacje osnów pomiarowych: Zastosowanie transformacji w procesie odnowienia osnowy pomiarowej podczas modernizacji zbiorów zintegrowanego systemu informacji o nieruchomościach
PublicationPublikacja prezentuje rozwiązanie polegające na wykorzystaniu transformacji współrzędnych do wyznaczania położenia zniszczonych, utraconych punktów starej osnowy pomiarowej w układzie nowej mapy. Celem opisanych badań było znalezienie odpowiedzi na pytanie: jaki rodzaj i stopień transformacji (lub też korekt post-transformacyjnych) zastosować, aby uzyskać jak najkorzystniejsze efekty dla celów geodezyjnych.
