Epitope Mapping of BmpA and BBK32 Borrelia burgdorferi Sensu Stricto Antigens for the Design of Chimeric Proteins with Potential Diagnostic Value
PublicationLyme disease is a tick-borne zoonosis caused by Gramnegative bacteria belonging to the Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato (s.l.) group. In this study, IgM- and IgG-specific linear epitopes of two B. burgdorferi sensu stricto (s.s.) antigens BmpA and BBK32 were mapped using a polypeptide array. Subsequently, two chimeric proteins BmpABBK32-M and BmpA-BBK32-G were designed to validate the construction of chimeras using the identified...

Population-based case-control study of alpha 1-antitrypsin and SLC11A1 in Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
PublicationBackground: Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) are chronic inflammatory diseases of the digestive tract. Genetic factors and an abnormal immune response to infections are suspected to be involved in inflammatory bowel diseases. Methods: In the present study 300 blood samples from CD patients (n 100), UC patients (n 100), and healthy controls (n 100) were taken from a population-based case-control study. PCR assays...

Professional activity, gender and disease-related emotions: The impact on parents' experiences in caring for children with phenylketonuria
PublicationIntroduction: Clinical management of rare diseases often fails to acknowledge the challenges faced by caregivers.Whilst management of phenylketonuria (PKU) may not be considered as dire as other conditions, most studiesprimarily concentrate on clinical issues, dietary adherence, or the quality of life of the PKU patients, leavingcaregivers in the background. The aim of the study was to evaluate the psychosocial...

Classification of Covid-19 using Differential Evolution Chaotic Whale Optimization based Convolutional Neural Network
PublicationCOVID-19, also known as the Coronavirus disease-2019, is an transferrable disease that spreads rapidly, affecting countless individuals and leading to fatalities in this worldwide pandemic. The precise and swift detection of COVID-19 plays a crucial role in managing the pandemic's dissemination. Additionally, it is necessary to recognize COVID-19 quickly and accurately by investigating chest x-ray images. This paper proposed a...

Potential diagnostic utility of recombinant Toxoplasma gondii proteins for detecting anti-Toxoplasma gondii IgG antibodies in horses serum samples
Open Research DataToxoplasmosis is caused by an intracellular protozoan, Toxoplasma gondii, and is a parasitic disease that occurs in all warm-blooded animals, including humans. Toxoplasmosis is one of the most common parasitic diseases of animals and results in reproductive losses. Diagnosis of toxoplasmosis is currently based on serological assays using native antigens...

A pilot study with flow mediated skin fluorescence: A novel device to assess microvascular endothelial function in coronary artery disease
PublicationBackground: Endothelial dysfunction is one of the earliest vascular manifestations in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease. Noninvasive, simple and inexpensive methods of endothelial function assessment are therefore needed. Methods: Microvascular endothelial function was assessed in coronary artery disease (CAD) patients by flow mediated skin fluorescence (FMSF), based on measurements of NADH fluorescence intensity during...

Design of new cholinesterase inhibitors based on phosphorus analogs of tacrine as potential anti-Alzheimer’s disease agents
PublicationBased on the analysis of the determined free binding energy (using the AutoDock Vina 1.1.2 docking program), the most potent cholinesterase inhibitors were selected. Moreover, studies of 3D visualization of the results of molecular modeling led to the identification of potential sites for the interaction of new potential inhibitors with amino acid residues building active sites of investigated cholinesterases.

Application of Wavelet Transform and Fractal Analysis for Esophageal pH-Metry to Determine a New Method to Diagnose Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease
PublicationIn this paper, a new method for analysing gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is shown. This novel method uses wavelet transform (WT) and wavelet-based fractal analysis (WBFA) on esophageal pH-metry measurements. The esophageal pH-metry is an important diagnostic tool supporting the physician’s work in diagnosing some forms of reflux diseases. Interpreting the results of 24-h pH-metry monitoring is time-consuming, and the conclusions...

Detection of the Ag nanoparticles in Te-Bi-Ba-Oa glass
Open Research DataThe influence of the manufacturing parameters of tellurium-bismuth-barium glasses on the presence of silver nanoparticles was investigated. Glasses were annealed at 330, 335, 340, 345 and 350 degrees Celsius for 24 and 48 hours. Presence of the Ag nanoparticles was measured by XPS method. The growth of nanoparticles was observed along with the extension...

Diving boldly into COVID‐19 contaminated wastewater: Eyes at nanotechnology‐assisted solutions
PublicationSeveral studies have been directed to find scalable, swift, accurate, and cost-effective strategies for detecting, monitoring, and treating coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Indeed, the lack of a fast and practical method for detecting the infected regions makes decision-making challenging to combat the critical pandemic-struck situations. The probable ‘wrong’, or rather inadequate, decisions not only have a boomerang effect...

Design, synthesis and biological evaluation of novel N-phosphorylated and O-phosphorylated tacrine derivatives as potential drugs against Alzheimer’s disease
PublicationIn this work, we designed, synthesised and biologically investigated a novel series of 14N- and O-phosphorylated tacrine derivatives as potential anti-Alzheimer’s disease agents. In the reaction of 9-chlorotacrine and corresponding diamines/aminoalkylalcohol we obtained diamino and aminoalkylhydroxy tacrine derivatives. Next, the compounds were acid to give final products 6–13 and 16–21 that were characterised by 1H, 13 C, 31P...
