Phase separation in poly(butylene terephthalate)-based materials prepared by solid-state modification
PublicationThe morphology of a series of poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT)/fatty acid dimer diol (FADD)-based copolyesters prepared by solid-state modi fi cation (SSM) was studied. It was shown that in copolyesters containing less than 10 wt% FADD two different phases, i.e. a PBT crystalline phase and a PBT-rich amorphous phase, are present. The FADD residues were more or less homogeneously distributed throughout the interlamellar regions....

Pressure-induced flow processing behind the superior mechanical properties and heat-resistance performance of poly(butylene succinate)
PublicationWe propose a pressure-induced flow (PIF) processing method for the simultaneous enhancement of strength, toughness, and heat resistance of biodegradable poly(butylene succinate) (PBS). The pressure and temperature were systematically adjusted to optimize the tensile strength of PBS. Under the optimized processing conditions, the structured PBS was characterized by relatively high strength of 89.5 MPa, toughness of 21.4 kJ·m−2 ,...

Solid-State Modification of Poly(butylene terephthalate) with a Bio-Based Fatty Acid Dimer Diol Furnishing Copolyesters with Unique Morphologies
PublicationCopolyesters based on poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) and a bio-based fatty acid dimer diol (FADD) were prepared by solid-state modification (SSM). The chemical incorporation of the FADD into the backbone of the PBT was proven using various techniques. It was clear that the incorporation rate was diffusion-limited rather than reaction-limited. From quantitative 13C NMR a nonrandom chemical microstructure was obtained at all...

Influence of chemical structure on physicochemical properties and thermal decomposition of the fully bio-based poly(propylene succinate-co-butylene succinate)s
PublicationIn this work, two polyesters and four copolyesters were studied. All materials were synthesized to obtain the monomers dedicated for thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers. For this type of PUR, the monomers should characterize by appropriate selected physicochemical properties and macromolecular structure distribution, which depends on synthesis conditions. The study of chemical structure with extensive and knowledgeable analysis...

Solid-Contact Ion-Selective Electrodes with Highly SelectiveThioamide Derivatives of p-tert-Butylcalix[4]arene for theDetermination of Lead(II) in Environmental Samples
PublicationThioamide derivatives of p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene were used as ionophores in the development of solid-contact ion-selective electrodes based on conducting polymer poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)/polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT/PSS) which was synthesized by electrodeposition on the glassy carbon electrodes. The typical ion-selective membranes with optionally two different plasticizers [bis(2-ethylhexyl)sebacate (DOS) and 2-nitrophenyl...

The porosity and morphology of PU foams prepared by solvent casting/salt leaching method with different solvents
PublicationIn this study, the polyurethane (PU) system based on poly(ethylene-butylene) adipate diol, 1,6-hexamethylene diisocyanate, 1,4-butanediol and ascorbic acid is used to prepare a foamed material. Polymer foams were created using solvent casting/salt-particle leaching (SC/PL) method. The influence of the PU concentration in different solutions [either in a DMF or in DMF with THF as a co-solvent] on the morphology and porosity of the...

The Influence of PEG on Morphology of Polyurethane Tissue Scaffold
PublicationIn this study, polyurethanes (PU) were synthesized from oligomeric dihydroxy(etylene-butylene adipate), poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG), hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI), 1,4-butanediol (BDO) as chain extender and stannous octoate as catalyst. PEG due to its hydrophilic character influences physical and chemical properties of PU. For testing were used PU having the following weigh contents of PEG: 0%, 7%, and 14%. Porous scaffolds...

Porosity and swelling properties of novel polyurethane–ascorbic acid scaffolds prepared by different procedures for potential use in bone tissue engineering
PublicationIn this work, a novel polyurethane (PU) system based on poly(ethylene-butylene) adipate diol, 1,6-hexamethylene diisocyanate, 1,4-butanediol, and ascorbic acid was used to prepare scaffolds with potential applications in bone tissue engineering. Two fabrication methods to obtain porous materials were chosen: phase separation (PS)/salt particle leaching (PL) and solvent casting (SC)/salt PL. The calculated porosity demonstrated...

Gelatin-Modified Polyurethanes for Soft Tissue Scaffold
PublicationRecently, in the field of biomaterials, which are being designed for soft tissue scaffolding, is growing the interest of their modification with natural polymers. Synthetic polymers are often hard, not easy to process and they do not possess fine biodegradable profile. From the other hand natural polymers are biocompatible, but weak when used alone. The combination of natural and synthetic polymers gives the suitable properties...

l-ascorbic acid modified poly(ester urethane)s as a suitable candidates for soft tissue engineering applications
PublicationIn this paper we created novel poly(ester urethane)s (PESUs) designed specifically for tissue engineering. The PESUs were derived from oligomeric α,ω-dihydroxy(ethylene-butylene adipate) (dHEBA), 1,4-butanediol (BDO) and aliphatic 1,6-hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) and modified with l-ascorbic acid to improve their biocompatibility. In addition, we determined their mechanical properties (such as tensile strength, elongation at...

The influence of glycols’ origin on the chemical structure, mechanical and thermal properties of the prepared polyurethanes was studied. The materials were synthesised by prepolymer method. The first step involved the reaction of α,ω-dihydroxy(ethylene-butylene adipate (POLIOS 55/20) with 4,4’-diphenylmethane...

Thermoplastic polyurethanes with glycolysate intermediates from polyurethane waste recycling
PublicationThe polyol is a major component in polyurethane formulations and therefore introducing to the formulation recycled polyol (obtained during decomposition process) allows decreasing the usage of pure petrochemical components. In this work, thermoplastic polyurethanes were prepared using various mixtures of a petrochemical macrodiol poly(ethylene-butylene adipate)diol (PEBA) and a recycled glycolysate intermediate, called glycolysate...
