Metody te nie są w pełni obiektywne, stąd poszukuje się sztucznego sensora smaku. Przedstawiono szereg rozwiązań prowadzących do opracowania sensora smaku na większą skalę. Omówiono wybrane potencjometryczne i woltamperometryczne sensory smaku, a także ich handlowe modele.
