Three-point bending test of sandwich beams supporting the GFRP footbridge design process - validation
PublikacjaSome selected aspects concerning material and construction design issues for pedestrian footbridge made of GFRP composite materials are elaborated in this paper. The analysis is focused on validation tests, which are particularly important because of the advanced technology and materials that are used for this innovative bridge. The considered footbridge is a sandwich-type shell structure comprising of PET foam core and outer skins...

Experimental and numerical evaluation of mechanical behaviour of composite structural insulated panels
PublikacjaComposite structural insulated panels (CSIPs) are novel prefabricated elements for structural applications. Panels under consideration are made from glass-fibre reinforced magnesia cement boards as facesheets and expanded polystyrene foam (EPS) as a core. Quasi-static full-scale and model bending tests under monotonic loading were performed to recognize mechanical properties of CSIPs in flexure. In addition, tensile, compressive,...

Impact damage in SiO2 nanoparticle enhanced epoxy – Carbon fibre composites
PublikacjaLow velocity impact behaviour of nano-SiO2 enhanced carbon fibre/epoxy composites for naval applications is reported. Epoxy resin matrix was enhanced by 1- 8 wt% SiO2 nanoparticles, based on industrial surface-modified nanosilica. Impact parameters: force, deformation, energy, damage size were recorded. The most pronounced effect was damage size decrease; e.g. ∼28% recorded by infrared thermography and X-ray computed radiography...

Environmemtal Degradation of Ramie Fibre Reinforced Biocomposites
PublikacjaThe estimation of environmental degradibility of different fibre reinforced biocomposites in Baltic sea and in compost with activated sludge under natural conditions is the subject of this paper. Two types of biocomposites, ramie fibre/ecoflex and ramie fibre/cellulose nanofibre reinforced corn starch resin, were studied. It was demonstrated that the biocomposites with natural fibre of ramie were degraded in compost faster than...

Environmental Degradation of Ramie Fibre Reinforced Biocomposites
PublikacjaThe degradation process of two kinds of biocomposites, Ramie fibre/Ecoflex R/E and ramie fibre/cellulose nanofibre reinforced corn starch resin R/CS, were studied. It was demonstrated that R/CS degraded faster in natural environments.

Validation Process for Computational Model of Full-Scale Segment for Design of Composite Footbridge
PublikacjaExperimental tests and numerical simulations of a full-scale segment of a foot and cycle bridge made of polymer composites are presented in the paper. The analysed structure is made of sandwich panels, which consist of glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP) multi-layered laminate faces and a PET foam (obtained from recycling) core. The dimensions of the segment cross-section are the same as for the target footbridge; however, span...

COMPOSITE MATERIAL SELECTION FOR A PATIENT TRANSFER ASSIST DEVICE
PublikacjaLaminates - layered composites containing at least two elements (matrix and reinforcement) widely used in industry have also found their usage in medicine. Their main feature is the ability to modify the material in order to obtain the required properties. Depending on the needs, we can modify reinforcement, type of resin or the method of bonding substrates. Commonly used fibers are: carbon fiber, glass and aramid fibers; resins...

Tensile validation tests with failure criteria comparison for various GFRP laminates
PublikacjaThe paper studies the mechanical properties of glass fibre reinforced polymers (GFRP) with various types and orientation of reinforcement. Analyzed specimens manufactured in the infusion process are made of polymer vinyl ester resin reinforced with glass fibres. Several samples were examined containing different plies and various fibres orientation [0, 90] or [+45, –45]. To assess the mechanical parameters of laminates, a series...

New matrix-free reference material for ethene in the form of optical fibres
PublikacjaReference materials are indispensable in the qualitycontrol and quality assurance of analytical measurements. Onenovel approach to the generation of standard gaseous mixturesof toxic, reactive, volatile, labile, and malodorous substancesinvolves thermal decomposition or rearrangement, under definedtemperature conditions, of compounds immobilized, bychemical bonding, on the surface of an appropriate carrier torelease specific amounts...

Current trends in solid-phase microextraction (SPME) fibre catings
PublikacjaThis critical review presents information on known and innovative approaches to the manufacture of fibre coatings used in solid-phase microextraction (SPME). The properties, advantages and drawbacks of the different types of commercially available SPME fibre coatings are discussed in detail, as are those of novel types of coatings and the methodologies of their preparation. The applications of fibre coatings in the solid-phase...
