Identification and cloning of C. albicans SC5314 genes encoding L-methionine biosynthetic pathway enzymes.
Dane BadawczeEnzymes of fungal L-methionine biosynthetic pathway: homoserine O-acetyltransferase (Met2p), O-acetylhomoserine sulfhydrylase (Met15p) and cystathionine-γ-synthase (Str2p) could be exploited as molecular targets for antifungal chemotherapy. The goal of the study was to identify and clone genes encoding mentioned above enzymes. MET2, MET15 and STR2 genes...

Intelligent equalizer solution employing music genre and the room characteristics analysis
PublikacjaThe paper presents an intelligent equalizer solution based on room acoustic conditions and music genre analysis. A series of acoustic characteristic measurements are performed for checking the concept proposed. White noise (reference signal) and audio excerpts belonging to six music genres are utilized as excitation signals in measurements. This results in registration of frequency responses of rooms and reverberation times. Signals...

Bass Enhancement Settings in Portable Devices Based on Music Genre Recognition
PublikacjaThe paper presents a novel approach to the Virtual Bass Synthesis (VBS) applied to mobile devices, called Smart VBS (SVBS). The proposed algorithm uses an intelligent, rule-based setting of bass synthesis parameters adjusted to the particular music genre. Harmonic generation is based on a nonlinear device (NLD) method with the intelligent controlling system adapting to the recognized music genre. To automatically classify music...

Smart Virtual Bass Synthesis Algorithm Based on Music Genre Classification
PublikacjaThe aim of this paper is to present a novel approach to the Virtual Bass Synthesis (VBS) algorithms applied to portable computers. The proposed algorithm employed automatic music genre recognition to determine the optimum parameters for the synthesis of additional frequencies. The synthesis was carried out using the non-linear device (NLD) and phase vocoder (PV) methods depending on the music excerpt genre. Classification of musical...

An examination of an Antarctic soil metagenomic-derivate putative methylthioadenosine phosphorylase gene as a novel reporter gene for promoter trapping
PublikacjaThe rsfp gene was discovered during examination ofan Antarctic soil-derived metagenome library and encodesa bacterial methylthioadenosine phosphorylase (GenBank accession number GQ202582). In a previous study, we found that E. coli colonies expressing the rsfp gene reveal strong pink fluorescence after exposure to UV light when grown on culture medium supplemented with rhodamine B (Cieśliński et al., 2009). In contrast to that,...

Evolving gene regulatory networks controlling foraging strategies of prey and predators in an artificial ecosystem
PublikacjaCo-evolution of predators and prey is an example of an evolutionary arms race, leading in nature to selective pressures in positive feedback. We introduce here an artificial life ecosystem in which such positive feedback can emerge. This ecosystem consists of a 2-dimensional liquid environment and animats controlled by evolving artificial gene regulatory networks encoded in linear genomes. The genes in the genome encode chemical...

A concept of Signal Equalization Method Based on Music Genre and the Listener's Room Characteristics
PublikacjaA research study that investigates the influence of the room acoustics environment on the frequency characteristic of the audio signal playback is presented. First, a novel spectral equalization method of the room acoustic conditions is introduced. On the basis of the frequency response of the room, a system for room acoustics compensation based on eight-band equalizer is proposed. The system settings depend on music genre. In...

Targeting Spike‐ACE2 Interface of SARS‐CoV‐2 and its Omicron Variant: A Comparative Screening of Potential Inhibitors for Existing and Anticipating Variants Using Molecular Modelling Approach
PublikacjaThe recent COVID pandemic has shown major impact on public health and economic crisis. Despite the development of many vaccines and drugs against the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) coronavirus 2, the pandemic still persists. The continued spread of the virus is largely driven by the emergence of viral variants such as α, β, γ, delta, epsilon spike, omicron and its subvariants (BA.1,2,3) which can evade the current vaccines...

Modelling gene expression of a self-regulating protein
PublikacjaWe analyze a model of gene transcription and protein synthesis. We take into account the number of sites on the protein’s promoter at which the protein’s dimers can bind blocking transcription of protein mRNA.

ANALYSIS OF THE p53 PROTEIN GENE EXPRESSION MODEL
PublikacjaWe study the asymptotic behaviour of the solutions of the p53-Mdm2 model proposed by Monk (2003). The p53 gene is crucial for cellular inhibition of the angiogenesis process, while Mdm2 is a negative regulator of the p53 tumor-suppressor. We investigate the stability of the positive steady state and perform some numerical experiments.

Fenomen przemocy w doktrynach prawnych. Tendencje legislacyjne dotyczące sprawcy i osoby doznającej przemocy
PublikacjaPrzemoc, aczkolwiek różnie postrzegana, stanowi przedmiot zainteresowania wielu dziedzin prawa. Do przeprowadzenia analizy wykorzystano...

Uprzednie uzgodnienia cenowe jako narzędzie w sprawach porozumień w zakresie ustalania cen transakcyjnych
PublikacjaW dobie nasilonych procesów globalizacji, problem unikania opodatkowania poprzez lokowanie dochodów w krajach o niskim opodatkowaniu staje się coraz bardziej istotnym.

Composition and antimicrobial activity of fatty acids detected in the hygroscopic secretion collected from the secretory setae of larvae of the biting midge Forcipomyia nigra (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae)
PublikacjaThe hygroscopic secretion produced by the secretory setae of terrestrial larvae of the biting midge Forcipomyia nigra (Winnertz) was analysed using gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The viscous secretion is stored at the top of each seta and absorbs water from moist air. GC-MS analyses (four independent tests) showed that the secretion contained 12 free fatty acids, the most abundant of which were oleic...

Principles of target DNA cleavage and the role of Mg2+ in the catalysis of CRISPR–Cas9
PublikacjaAt the core of the CRISPR–Cas9 genome-editing technology, the endonuclease Cas9 introduces site-specific breaks in DNA. However, precise mechanistic information to ameliorate Cas9 function is still missing. Here, multimicrosecond molecular dynamics, free energy and multiscale simulations are combined with solution NMR and DNA cleavage experiments to resolve the catalytic mechanism of target DNA cleavage. We show that the conformation...
