Finite-difference time-domain analyses of active cloaking for electrically-large objects
PublicationInvisibility cloaking devices constitute a unique and potentially disruptive technology, but only if they can work over broad bandwidths for electrically-large objects. So far, the only known scheme that allows for broadband scattering cancellation from an electrically-large object is based on an active implementation where electric and magnetic sources are deployed over a surface surrounding the object, but whose ‘switching on’...

Simultaneous voltammetric determination of Cd2+, Pb2+, and Cu2+ ions captured by Fe3O4@SiO2 core-shell nanostructures of various outer amino chain length
PublicationIn the present study, we examined a novel functionalised magnetic nanoparticles Fe3O4@SiO2-Nn as a nano adsorbent for binding of Cd2+, Pb2+, Cu2+ ions in an aqueous solution. First, we obtained the nanoparticles functionalised with various carbon chains containing different number of amino groups: (3-amino)propyltriethoxysilane (Fe3O4@SiO2-N1), N-(2-aminoethyl)-3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (Fe3O4@SiO2-N2) and N1-(3-trimethoxysilylpropyl)diethylenetriamine...

Comparative analysis of three‐phase dual active bridge converter with different transformer topology and modern universal control for DC microgrids
PublicationThe presented work discusses issues related to the use of modern multiphase topologies of Dual Active Bridge (DAB)-type converters. Converters of this type are widely used in most DC microgrid applications. The introduction emphasizes a comparative analysis between single-phase and multi-phase DAB topologies within high-power DC microgrids, delving into their respective advantages, drawbacks, design procedures, and considerations...

Tackling microplastics pollution in global environment through integration of applied technology, policy instruments, and legislation
PublicationMicroplastic pollution is a serious environmental problem that affects both aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Small particles with size of less than 5 mm, known as microplastics (MPs), persist in the environment and pose serious threats to various species from micro-organisms to humans. However, terrestrial environment has received less attention than the aquatic environment, despite being a major source of MPs that eventually...

Biomechanics of the medial meniscus in the osteoarthritic knee joint
PublicationBackground. Increased mechanical loading and pathological response of joint tissue to the abnormal mechanical stress can cause degradation of cartilage characteristic of knee osteoarthritis (OA). Despite osteoarthritis is risk factor for the development of meniscal lesions the mechanism of degenerative meniscal lesions is still unclear. Therefore, the aim of the study is to investigate the influence of medial compartment knee OA...

Synthesis and characterization of cycloaliphatic hydrophilic polyurethanes, modified with l-ascorbic acid, as materials for soft tissue regeneration
PublicationIn this paper we described synthesis and characteristic of obtained hydrophilic polyurethanes (PURs) modified with ascorbic acid (commonly known as vitamin C). Such materials may find an application in the biomedical field, for example in the regenerative medicine of soft tissues, according to ascorbic acid wide influence on tissue regeneration Flora (2009), Szymańska-Pasternak et al. (2011), Taikarimi and Ibrahim (2011), Myrvik...

Reactivation of seizure‐related changes to interictal spike shape and synchrony during postseizure sleep in patients
PublicationOBJECTIVE: Local field potentials (LFPs) arise from synchronous activation of millions of neurons, producing seemingly consistent waveform shapes and relative synchrony across electrodes. Interictal spikes (IISs) are LFPs associated with epilepsy that are commonly used to guide surgical resection. Recently, changes in neuronal firing patterns observed in the minutes preceding seizure onset were found to be reactivated during postseizure...

Conception and design of a hybrid exciter for brushless synchronous generator. Application for autonomous electrical power systems = Koncepcja i projekt hybrydowej wzbudnicy bezszczotkowego generatora synchronicznego. Zastosowanie w autonomicznych systemach elektroenergetycznych
PublicationIn this paper a hybrid excitation system for a brushless synchronous generator working with variable speed in an autonomous energy generation system (e.g. airplane power grid) has been presented. A conception of a dual-stator hybrid exciter has been proposed. Comparison study of classical and hybrid exciter has been carried out. For the electromagnetic calculation two approaches have been applied: an analytical approach (based...

Superconductivity and ferromagnetism in Pd doped Y9Co7
PublicationThe ferromagnetic superconductor Y9Co7 was chemically doped to yield the solid solution Y9Co7-xPdx for 0 < x < 0.4. The lattice parameter a does not depend on x, whereas c increases with increasing Pd content up to x ¼ 0.2, the palladium solubility limit. The transition from ferromagnetism (TC ¼ 4.25 K) to superconductivity (Tsc ¼ 2.4 K) was observed only for the parent Y9Co7 compound. For the lowest tested Pd doping level (x ¼...

Combinated treatment of landfill leachates with wastewater in a sequencing batch reactor (SBR)
PublicationSanitary landfill leachates are treated usually by multistage systems using physical, chemical and biological processes. One of the most economic and efficient method is combined treatment of landfill leachates with municipal wastewater in a sequencing batch reactor (SBR. The main advantage of such co-treatment is that landfill leachates variability (in quality and quantity) do not influence the effectiveness of biological processes....

Influence of intermixing at the Ta/CoFeB interface on spin Hall angle in Ta/CoFeB/MgO heterostructures
PublicationWhen a current is passed through a non-magnetic metal with strong spin-orbit coupling, an orthogonal spin current is generated. This spin current can be used to switch the magnetization of an adjacent ferromagnetic layer or drive its magnetization into continuous precession. The interface, which is not necessarily sharp, and the crystallographic structure of the nonmagnetic metal can both affect the strength of current-induced...
